Superhydrophobic spray on shoes?

Have you guys had any experience with "superhydrophobic" sprays on shoes? I wanna get some new kicks and everything proof them, but I kind of get the impression that some of these sprays can discolor your shoes, not work correctly etc etc...

Has anyone had luck with a certain brand? Bad results? Anyone even know what I'm talking about?

Jason Markk Repel looks like pretty good stuff

In My Experience the Jason Markk Cleaner is great, it has cleaned up some 10 year old shoes with no issues,
so if they make a protector it is probably pretty good.


it's seems a bit pricey for what it does but I am guessing it does the trick

Damn I came to this thread expecting some sort of spray-on rubberized shoe like plasti-dip for your feet or something

I have used Sno-Seal wax on leather boots and gloves with good results but I think it's leather only and it's definitely not invisible when applied, so it's more of like a work boot thing than a nice pair of kicks thing. Otherwise I have nothing to contribute to this thread.

3. I work in a restaurant/bar, and so my shoes have a tendency to get gunked up very frequently, especially around the white rubber part that goes around the bottom of most shoes. I have found that excessive scrubbing and attempted cleaning of my shoes simply catalyzes the wearing-out process, so I figured I will just superproof my next pair. I'm planning on buying a nice comfortable pair of Nikes, and a meh pair of Converse.

Also I looked up that Jason Markk stuff and it looks to be pretty solid. No discoloration from the spray that I can see.

there was another one where they show like someone pouring gravy on a shoe and it just drips off but I can't remember what it is;

There are a lot of similar products on the market, and the way I understand it, they all work reasonably well. But I know that some such sprays will leave discolored spots and whatnot. Jason Markk seems like a cool guy with cool spray though.

i've used this stuff on leather and suede for years, always good. i think it's clear silicone based so shouldn't discolour your things, although the solvent in it makes your shoes look slightly darker (as water would) for a few minutes until it evapourates. so don't panic if they look 'wet' darker when you spray it on, it's temporary. i'm in the uk but i think 3m is pretty global.
regularly polishing leather shoes with kiwi polish (or similar wax polish) can keep them waterproof too. seems to be an old school forgotten habit these days but putting wax (natural waterproof) polish on shoes does actually serve a useful purpose, it's not just to make them look shiny. when i find a pair of good leather or suede shoes i like i try to keep them going for years, so have a bit of insight into what makes shoes last. i think good shoes are important. while i might skimp on clothes (seconhand or cheap) when money is tight, i would never skimp on shoes. they are fundamental.

yeah I use a wax/polish on my leather

sneakers I tend to let wear a little bit (which you can do when you don't generally wear a shoe more than a few days a month)

I am like you, other than jeans (which I buy the same pair from the same place in the same size every few months) I tend to look for bargains on clothes.
But I will spend money on kicks

Yep, I also use wax polish. And mink oil for winter boots and gloves, though I'm fairly certain it doesn't contain any minks. I find it easier maintaining leather shoes than goretex other stuff, but leather boots are a bit passé apparently.
