Looks absolutely killer! Didn't think I was a fan of silverburst, but that guitar is changing my mind.

thanks guys...really like it...it turned out so much better than i thought.

He also told me that he expects it to check very soon. I am moving to Australia next week, and the change in weather and with the Nitro finish being only a few weeks old, it will apparently speed up the checking process...so looking forward to that too!

Same Here. Looks absolutely amazing.

Questions though:

1. Since you refinished it, you could have used any donor LP, right?
2. How did you deal with the binding? My autobody mech friend and I once did this to an Epi Dot, and while it turned out great, there was always a lip where paint met the binding, from taping it off, even after sanding and several coats of clear, it was never perfectly level. Same for fretboard to neck. It didn't deter playing at all, but it just bothered me that it wasn't perfect.

so...i didn't do this to be clear...i gave it to a guy who does nitro re-finishes...but i can still answer your questions.

1. No...it had to be a Les Paul Custom, because you get all the right body binding, but also it had to be one that had chrome hardware. There's only a few that have the combination, 1 is Epiphone Silverburst LPC, the other is Edwards John Sykes Custom model (which I think Tokai makes also) and finally Gibson Les Paul Classic Customs. Through my research I didn't find any other LPC that had chrome hardware. Ofcourse i could have replaced gold hardware with chrome, but that would have been another few hundred on top, and before knowing i would love there guitar enough, this was too much of an investment, in what could have been a decoration guitar.

2. Mine has that lip too. The guy who did this for me, taped off the binding and yeah, it has a lip, but his wet sanded the finish to a point where it doesn't dip drastically...its kind of rounded off. But I don't have that issue on the neck binding, which is strange...but I'm not complaining!

BTW yours look great too!

Thanks! When I moved from Michigan to Arizona I ended up giving it to my brother. It's his #1. The paint was from a 1973 Olds 98 I had...Golden Moss I think. But I'm glad I wasn't alone with the lip thing, and yours being finished in nitro, it might wear away over time if you play the hell out of it.

Also, I too didn't actually paint...I stripped all the hardware and guts and did most of the pre sanding(which wasn't much, natural finish). He painted it, then I reassembled it. I did however plug the holes where the stop tailpiece and output jack were. I wanted the trapeze, and moved the jack to the side edge.

yeah i'm guessing the nitro will naturally blend into the edges.

i left everything to my guy...i don't have the tools or skills to do anything on a guitar, but play some power chords!
