Horror movie fans! Help support an awesome new idea!

So my girlfriend is starting up her new business "Monstrosities" this year in Chicago and it's going to be a destination spot for any horror movie fan.
We're trying to raise awareness to it, and I know I can't be the only fan of horror movies on ILF.
Monstrosities is going to be a shop that has: collectibles, toys, games and other memorabilia from Horror, Sci-Fi, Fantasy and more. A snack shop where you can get handmade baked goods and other treats as well. And to top it off, a private fully tricked out movie theater ("The Screaming Room) where you can host a BYOB movie party and show any flick you want!

LOVE the idea, but you DESPERATELY need a video. Putting some effort in this aspect will give your ambitions more weight and credibility. Looks very amateurish, reminds me of a comic strip (I think Betty) which had a storyline recently of her kid starting a kickstarter campaign just to get money.
That being said; I LOVE the idea. She should have pics of the "perks", the buttons and tshirt design.
The video should have her talking, show some of her memorabilia, and baked goods.

In closing, the idea is pregnant with potential.

Are you going to need to pay a licensing fee for your movie theater thing?

Since the theater room is actually an all purpose activity room, anyone who rents it can show whatever movie they'd like, as long as they supply the film. That's how the theater will work.
I had the same questions for her when she put the whole idea together, but it seems like you operate that way and avoid licensing fees.

Good question! Though if it's a "private party" thing, it may not fall under "public performance".

You have to pay licensing if you sell tickets. If not, all that needs to happens is you get turned in once and fined a huge fucking amount. Trust me, I worked in the theater business for 15 years.

The way you're doing it seems to be the safest route. Rent the theater out and allow them to show whatever they want. Just don't sell it under the guise of "you'll get to see this movie" and you ought to be fine.

Some companies COUGH Sony COUGH are bigger bitches about this stuff. So just be careful. Sounds like a neat idea.
