Re: The NINT Molecular Clipping Overdrive Prototype
Hey Michael! Good question.. I don't really know how that'll go down and I probably shouldn't speculate on it.. I hope so though. I hope that becomes an option one day, I think that would be really cool.mikeyx13 wrote:OG effects pedal named Heisenberg, man that has got to be one bad mother f'er of a pedal. I've got money earmarked for it already! I'm real interested in the changing of cards, will the OG version work with whatever size the un-released cards that could be available?
I did some experimenting with just using 1 junction instead of 3 and just switching the junction in and out of each gain stage. The problem is it requires a 4 pole switch, the most you can get in a single deck rotary switch, but I need one more pole to turn the gain stage indicator LED on and off. I thought 3 millennium bypass circuits would do the trick but the way the circuit is setup they don't work right plus they don't get along with the junctions, so it has to be 3 junctions anyway, one for each gain stage, leaving open that option of being able to change the junctions in each gain stage one day.
You can put a junction in the Aonys if you want buddy! There's a couple details about working with junctions that's different than a normal diode but basically if you want clipping in a circuit you can use a junction for it. The NPN stage of the prototype/Heisenberg is a cool fuzz with the gain all the way up. It's just one stage so it's not very high gain but I think of it as a medium gain fuzz.jwar wrote:Ryan can you use this in a fuzz??? OMG.

Thanks for checking it out!nshuman wrote:I want one bad now!
This week I signed the final licensing paperwork to be able to use the junctions. This last agreement has a delivery time for the batch of junctions for the Heisenberg so we're getting pretty close to making these... if it all ticks along just right I could be building Hs by the end of April. There will be 100 available this first round and hopefully we'll get a second round going fast.. I don't know how that'll go yet though, maybe for my second round the licenses will be open to more builders.. not sure about that but I'll keep you guys posted with news!
I've nearly got the pcb ready for the first proto order, that'll be next step, then I'll probably get to show you guys a pic of a big bunch of junctions, and in the meantime we'll sort out the box... all the paperwork was a big part of it though and there was more than I thought there was going to be but it's all done now! *I think!*

Sooooooooooooo, did I miss it, or have we discussed price point yet?

As far as I know you can only buy it with quantum currency which hasn't been invented yet. But it works out well - due to quantum uncertainty it doesn't matter if you don't have enough in your bank account because in the act of paying you are affecting the state of your quantum balance and you may actually end up with enough for the transaction.

Here's what the prototype looks like inside and out.. I got a bunch of light plates from Andrew, The Tone God, because the junctions are neat looking and I figured these first 100 should celebrate the junctions and make them easily visible. Looks cool too!
Here's the production junctions, they're in a cool white package with NINT logo and Made in Canada in gold on the other side:
We're now in the wait for the boxes and the junctions, it's all ready to go and NINT is working on the junctions so it's all trucking along. Another month or two will see this in production!
Good question!jrmy wrote:Sooooooooooooo, did I miss it, or have we discussed price point yet? :excellent:

Well guys, the Heisenberg won't be cheap, I'm sorry. It's gonna be my most expensive pedal to date, in the $350 to $400 range. *ducks for cover* I know that's a lot for a distortion pedal and I get offended when I see lame businesses selling Tube Screamers and Fuzz Faces for $400, it's gross and the price is never justified... but trust me, this ain't like that!
There's 2 royalties that have to be paid for every Heisenberg, to the government and the university. This is a big chunk off the top off the pedal's price and it's just the nature of the game.. this is a proprietary technology that has to be licensed to use. But there's also the cost of the junctions, they're more expensive than any other part of the pedal, a big addition to the cost.
So hopefully folks will take that into account, that this isn't a $400 Tube Screamer and there's a good reason for the high price. Over time that price will come down too, as the packaging gets smaller and more mass produced for example. These junctions are all hand-assembled but in the future they'll be mechanized. Also I'm using 3 junctions to give you the full prototype experience, with junctions specially tailored to each gain stage. A top notch 3-in-1 distortion pedal with cutting edge technology!
Sorry there isn't more info about it.. and a lot of the info is vague.. we're sort of in that waiting period where everything gets ready. The boxes get sorted out, the build and all the parts get sorted out, the junction licensing and contracts get signed, the junctions get produced... we'll get through these stages and then boom, I'll be making the Heisenberg all of a sudden!echoraven wrote:Soooooo... any updates on this little bit of guitar porn?
