I didn't. I think people bitching about "the media" is, well, people who are being fucking stupid and overreacting. They blame the delivery service while ignoring the fact that A) biases and things have always been a part of news delivery and B) people throughout history have lacked critical thinking skills, it just seems worse because those people are dead and the history books don't cover them, so the morons that are alive seem more plentiful.

In conclusion, if you're complaining about "the media", you're probably not wrong ,but you're probably not making as new of a point as you think you are, almost certainly getting your Abe Simpson on.

I can understand both sides, really. People complaining about the media is perfectly valid, but you're right that it isn't as cut and dry as some (meaning general, not ilf) seem to think. It's a bit like telling someone you're an animator and they start telling you what to change at Pixar - carving a niche for yourself within the chaos as a reliable source is a far more achievable goal than wanting/anticipating changing the inherent structure of mass news tactics.

also, I got the first 'no' to the question about traditional news still being valid. "Radio is archaic and boring." I wonder who among us wrote that :idk:

It seems to be a common theme when people are asked about the media.

I'm fairly sure I fall into that decade above average age so it makes sense haha
oscillateur wrote:"Biased and politically charged" is part of what defines journalism for me so there might be diversity in there :)
It is what defines journalism at the current time, my thought is that maybe it doesn't need to be. I'll touch on that later.

You have a very valid point. In this country the very first news papers were used as ways to communicate the dissent against the British rule, or to inform people far away from the actual events of the happenings. Then it moved on as ways for fighting politicians to sling mud at each other to try and win elections. I just feel that if we want to progress as a society then this is one of things that needs to be dropped. The reason I see is exactly what your B is. People through out history and even now lack critical thinking skills, the majority of residents in the US are what people commonly refer to as Sheeple, they feed off of what they are force fed because its easier than making their own decisions. Its pure American laziness. But this in itself breeds a culture of misinformed polarized communities, that instead of embracing their freedom to believe what they want and respecting others rights to do the same, take on an Orwellian belief that their rights are more right than others. I just feel that if we are going to force feed people information to make their non-critical decisions on, it should be factual and unbiased, as that means everyone and anyone can be held accountable for their actions without being able to pass the blame or distract long enough for the problem to be forgotten.

Also you are dead on right, this is absolutely nothing new. Its been going on since before anybody alive on the planet today was born, and it will most likely never change unless the fundamental way our world is run drastically changes towards a centralized system. But at that point we have alot bigger concerns than just the news..... and there better be aliens.

The Buggles, obviously.

For the record, I said that it was important to keep traditional news for people who are behind the technology curve.

I originally added "and AA believes in aliens," to my post. Also, I agree with what you're saying but I think it's important to realize that this:

Thats a good point about traditional news, hadn't thought about it from that perspective.

Hahaha all posts about me should end with that!

Hmmmmm yet again a larger perspective I hadn't contemplated. You would definitely be correct sir.
