I have a few Kershaws and Benchmades that I rotate through for daily carry.

The only thing I'd show off is a Shun Classic chef's knife. Looks really cool with the Damascus style cladding and is sharp as fuck!

Absolutely. There is a very cool knife shop here in town that I go to from time to time to drool over their Japanese (kitchen) knives.

Like someone mentioned above, when I first clicked on this thread, I didn't think at all about "weapon" knives, it was kitchen all the way.

I'd get nicer cooking knives, but my housemates would wreck 'em. They've already wrecked my $40 Victorinox chef's knife. No point in getting anything else. I packed my kitchen knives up and put 'em away.

I've got a buddy who has a gorgeous collection of Japanese knives and he doesn't let his wife anywhere near them. Apparently she once stuck one of them in the dishwasher, and that was all it took to get her banned from handling them.

We have a handful of others, CRKT, Ka-Bar, etc. Nothing terribly impressive, just very functional stuff.

Although I do have a very, very nice fixed blade at home with a gorgeous stone inlay, it is the sharpest object I have ever known. I'll take a picture later, I wish I could remember the name of the stone, but I'm sure a photo will be revealing! I carry that one on nature excursions, as my misguided and overblown manhood tells me I could kill a wild bear/cougar/ninja with it if I had to.

Ouch, yeah, I know the feeling. I'd asked them to take better care of my knives many times and they just didn't.

I used to always carry a nice benchmade. I lost one, bought another and had it taken from me by the stupid cops in England cause you're apparently not allowed to carry a toothpick there. Then I bought another and it also fell out of my pocket somewhere. At almost a hundred bucks a pop, that was when I started rethinking carrying nice clip knives around with me. These days I actually usually carry a Milwaukee folding utility knife cause I use it all the time for work. I've found that is does well for most things. Opening things or cutting small shit. I also carry a leatherman for any other tasks. I have a $25 Winchester sheath knife that's actually pretty decent that I carry when I'm hunting or camping or backpacking. I very rarely carry it day to day though. I don't really carry knives for self defense these days so my utility knife/leatherman combo takes care of everything else. I have other things for self defense.
