Re: Anybody planning on buying the new MTG Duel Decks?
I will not be buying any mtg.
Used to love it. Then everyone became competition minded. WotC started making combos obvious. They and their fans killed it for me.
Also the overpowering of white and green. :<
I'm old school mtg. Some of th middle/new cards are fun.
I am mostly Black or Blue or on occasion Red.
Milling is for winners. Dark Rit is not broken.
Bitches don't understand Counterspell is mor powerful than any of the "Power 9"

I don't see white and green as being overpowered. In fact, I think I could easily beat most green and/or white decks with any blue deck I could brew.The_Active_Conundrum wrote:

I'm also old school mtg, from the days when you were almost guaranteed a win when you first turn dark ritual'd into Hypnotic Specter or Hymn to Tourach'd and brought out The Rack.
While my favorite colors are green and blue, I like black and red also. Hell, I like playing all colors, as it improves my game.
God, I used to hate playing against my buddy's blue/white millstone deck. That is, until I beat him with a mono red Sligh deck
Dark Ritual is in no way broken. Skullclamp is, thus it is banned in most formats, (not in Commander or other Singleton formats). And yet I play with it anyway.
No one appreciates Counterspell more than I. No one. That card, as well as its buyback counterpart (mmm, punny) Forbid, has won me more games than even turn 5 Fireblast.
Currently, my best deck is a mono blue deck. It controls while it throws down mana rocks, then annihilates with big flyers/big beaters.

I Like creatureless decks. I frequently avoid using creatures. I don't win verry much but when I do it is satisfying. when I have creatures its usually something like Oxidda Golem in my Riddle of Lightning deck. I also like self destructive spells like Kaervek's Spite.blooghost wrote: I don't see white and green as being overpowered. I don't get to play much anymore, since my prmary opponent is tired of mtg. There's a card shoppe down the street, but I don't go there becuse its full of "Standard Only" chumps.

Kaervak's Spite and Pox were both great, reckless cards that were fun as hell to play. And I'm with you on the "fuck standard" sentiment.

I do and it was. I remember when Force of Will wasn't going for 100.00 a pop, too. I had a full set in my Tradewind Rider deck.The_Active_Conundrum wrote:Yeah. Remember when there'd be like....two sets a year? It was wonderful.

Hahah, I played that game when it was first released (in the previous century) and stopped after a few years (probably still in the previous century) and I still don't get any of the references in this thread
. I really liked the game mechanics though, I would gladly play it sometimes again if it was a finite game where everyone has the same "resources" (I know there's a video game version but I like playing board games at a table with a beer nearby)...

I wish blue/black hadn't become the "milling" colors.
Older blue black stuff was always tight.
Now all the cards do is mill.
I don't like how creature-centric current magic is.
Spells are generally underpowered vs. creatures, and I find that to be boring.
I don't have the scratch to play Legacy, either.
I play Commander occasionally, though, and that's a ton of fun for me.

I run a Red/Blue deck that has only 6 creatures and it can whoop a swarm deck's ass. Although one of its win-cons is making infinite 2/2 Dudes. I do have to say I love creature-heavy decks though. I feel ya on Legacy. And Commander's definitely fun to play. I wanna try that new Tiny Leaders format that they just came out with as well.PetZounds wrote:I wish blue/black hadn't become the "milling" colors.

Now, now. Milling is for winners. Though I wish they'd tone it down instead of occasionally (Alara Block) being like WE'RE MILLING NOW! It makes the game unfun when I feel guilty about Milling. I enjoy that they made "Consume Spirit". It is essentially "Drain Life" with a different name. So you can run functionally 8 Drain Life.PetZounds wrote:I wish blue/black hadn't become the "milling" colors.

I think they just have a balance problem. I kinda want to go and "fix" their game.
I hate how having creatures essentially grants you victory vs a creatureless. I dislike how WotC is making th only play style be "competitive". Everyone I run into doesn't play for fun. Why spend money on unenjoyment? I can buy pedals with that instead.

Not playing for years now. Got bored of it and the community here. I do have a bunch of singles I use for drafts, and all out carnage (u get a random set of cards and they act as your deck, at draw step you may either draw a land or from the library; not sure what's the name of this format). But still, haven't played for a long time.
Anyone want to buy my cards?

I suppose I could write them all down or you can pm me for specifics. The last edition I have is Alara. No plainswalkers 'cept Ajani RW.
It's around 1200+ cards so I really don't know what you're looking for. PSYCHATOG, lol! Got 6 of them I think
