I hate micromanaging people and processes but unfortunately sometimes I have to because people make sloppy mistakes which of course I am responsible for since I am the Manager.

I find that some people need the micromanaging boss, because if they don't they just slack off and smoke cigarettes until there eight hours is over.
I hate those people.
I also hate the boss who checks on everyone, because that tells me that the boss is bored or has nothing to do. Also hate someone looking over my shoulder while I work, I feel that person has no confidence in me.

I luckily don't have any micromanagement issues with my bosses, but having multiple bosses who don't communicate with each other is not awesome.

Ah. This I know about. I used to work in a kitchen in a restaurant. Management was a wreck. No communication. Lots of showing coporate videos then asking the opposite be done.

For sure. I worked at a pizza place for 7 years and was sure the mgmt situation would improve when I got my "cushy" new job at a CPA firm.

That's sad. And fills me with dread for the future. I know incompetent co-workers nevr stops, but I had hoped incompetnt bosses was a food service thing.

All of my previous managers were micromanagers up the ass, but my current boss is awesome because of how hands-off he is. He pretty much leaves me alone unless he has a specific project he needs to me to jump on. As Nora said, some employees just suck and NEED to be micromanaged, but then they shouldn't have been hired, or you should fire them and find another employee who isn't a freaking child. An adult should be able to do their job without hand-holding. But at the same time, some managers micro-manage you whether you need it or not. They just have this insatiable desire to joggle your fucking elbow on every little task.

I am middle management kindof so I have a boss and people under me
the boss is like most micromanagers in that he hammers people for minor issues but misses the big picture alot
in general I just do my job, but one of our buyers constantly triggers the boss on his hangups

it's a real pain, I have a meeting tomorrow to discuss something that is essentially a non-issue

My manager is 1,200 miles away…was pretty sweet until my Dept. was told this past Monday that we are being let go by the company that acquired us (after months of being assured that we were safe).

I may be staying with this company in a new (a better/cooler global role) and my new manager (well VP) will be 1,200 miles away…SWEET.

I may be the only one to land on my feet,at this company, in my Department, that is because of personal relationships. The Exec. Vice President of Sales Worldwide mentors me…because I asked him to.
