For me it's the finality of it. Working/circumventing limitations and such.

yeah, kind of forcing it. sit here, now drone. nothing else
Yeah this is what I was trying to tell myself with my Drone Commander
And while I did really enjoy droning and working its limits, the modular ended up winning for me
Just so many options and so few limits
Little bit more expensive though :erm:

That being said, if you're really just looking to drone, a drone pedal would probably fit the bill a little better
Or a matrix mixer and some pedals:

Or just a tape recorder:

Sorry, that quickly turning into the exact opposite of "strictly drone pedals" for me

Cool, I guess that makes sense. I'd have jumped in already if there was more of a price gap between the two, but they're definitely fun looking boxes.

Do you guys like wind in your drones? I've seen these pop up on eBay recently, and they look tempting too.

I'm so excited.
tell
It's not finalized, but I can tell you there wil be 6 oscillators with their own separate controls, plus about three or four extra goodies packed in. Hopefully I can go try out the latest revisions tonight.

If you're referring to the shruti box, each switch is 1 note in a 13 note chromatic scale. So you can play different notes and chords depending on which switches you have open.

Disregard if your question was about KB's behemoth drone monster.

Size comparison against the Drone Commander.

Still not done but I got it to trouble shoot / give feedbacl on. right now it has the 6 oscillators, a white noise generator, & two selectable filters (one's more peaky than the other). That front panel is gonna fill up with some more knobs, and some other practical goodies will be added in.

I got a Matrix Mixer from here. I wouldn't call it rugged, but for tabletop use it does the trick nicely.
