odont: thank you for making that point. Everyrhing is kind of loose right now so im hoping to nail shit down as the months draw nearer.

Highlights that I would look for in a city (not that I would need to fulfill all of them) would be:

Access to useful public transit / bicycle friendly. If I could get by well enough without owning a car I would.

Less snow/cold winters, been dealing with that long enough and wouldn't mind a change of pace. Lake effect snow can suck big time. Im not a huge heat person either but I can deal if it's not super humid.

A more adventurous music scene would be a huge plus but that can be hard to define or seek out cuz shit is always changing. Suffice to say a place thats a bigger market for touring bands would be awesome.

Job market is a bit vague for me, but ive been in the not for profit world and wouldn't mind staying there.

A good law school would be a big plus, Marla is likely looking to go in the future.

Providence RI can be a bit dicey for jobs, but there's interesting stuff here and there, and plenty of non-profits. I think it's a super navigable city, personally, and totally bikeable. For New England, the winters are pretty mild. The music scene is constantly changing, but we have a legacy of crazy stuff (Fort Thunder, the warehouse scene, Load Records), a few big venues and bunches of smaller venues. I wish there were more local record stores, but there are a couple, and lots of little labels. It does get super humid in August, but the rest of the summer tends to be pretty nice, and we have amazing beach access. Nicely located between Boston and NYC. Plenty of colleges, and Brown University definitely has a Law School, as does Roger Williams University.

I'd love to hang if you do stop through, though I can't proactively offer crash space (young kid + small house = just not easily feasible anymore).

I don't know anything about upstate NY.

Michigan of NY could be a compliment, I'm not sure.

Detroit is run down and shitty but has charm and people doing cool things there. Lots of cool ass nature shit and a we on a peninsula so whatever. Apocalypse? got that fresh water covered. Gonna get weird in the woods.

But if Michigan of NY isn't a compliment I totally get it. :D
I love Grand Rapids. Might be here a long time, might not. It'll do for now. Kinda want to do the Pacific Northwest thing. I like Austin, TX a lot but that shit is a bummer in the summer. I hate the heat.

You will love New Orleans, I would skip Houston and go straight to Austin.

If you are headed to CA after that I would go through Tucson. Tucson is a beautiful weird place. Phoenix nearby is one of the lamest cities I have been to.

Depending on which way you are headed to CA, you could always go through LA and take the Pacific Coast highway and go through Big Sur national park, hit Santa Cruz, and then San Francisco on the way to Davis. You def need to hit up San Fran and the Bay area, just really beautiful and lots of character. LA is a beast of a city, there's tons of cool spots here but not that fun if you don't know where to go.

I love Minneapolis. Great music, great food and beer, several great schools, including a few decent law schools. Really bike friendly and so so beautiful. The only downside is the winter.

If you come through, let us know. We are about 90 miles away from Mpls and would drive over in a heartbeat, and you are always welcome at the Dwarfcraft shop : )

I plan on flying to Seattle in the summer so hopefully you aren't gonna come through here when I'm gone! Denton is an okay place to live but honestly it's nothing special, the best thing about Denton is the people and cheap rent. The weather kinda bites and all the dope nature spots are scattered across TX. I'm actually planning on getting out of here after I graduate, if I can find a job somewhere
