I don't think this is weird information to want to know, I get turned off by the religious companies too. I see tons of builders on Instagram with the first line in their bio saying 'Christian owned company' or "I love god first, then music, then my job, then my kids, then my wife." I think it's gross and I think it's a lame manipulation, lame me-too mentality, and lame way to develop a business.

I also like knowing what companies are going to do disgusting things with the money I spend on their goods.. like Danelectro donating money to stop gay marriage or other companies that use their religious nature to drive pedal sales. I'm not supporting any of that.

If a business tries to make you think you should buy their goods or support their cause because of god it's bullshit.

I'm pretty sure no one is saying they have an issue with a builder who happens to be Christian, as opposed to a self proclaimed 'Christian business', which is a whole different thing.

Man. I don't believe in God, but the large majority of the earths population does. If I were to avoid doing business with people who believe stuffs, I would limit myself alot. So yeah, I don't mind buying pedals made by people who think we are here because some cosmic being wanted it to be so.

BUT I will not buy from people who in any way hold beliefs like homophopia, racism, nazism, oppression of women etc. There are plenty of theists out there who live normal lives, follows science, that don't oppress anybody and are generally good people. I have no issues with buying stuff from them.

I don't know much about megachurches and that kinda stuff, so I have no idea what views they hold. But yeah, I do find it weird if a pedalmaker should write what religion/worldview they belong to on their site. I mean, I don't present myself as Eivind the Atheist.

This is an interesting topic, and one that has not been brought up in awhile... at least to my knowledge in ILF.

I typically do not go out of my way to figure out the religious beliefs of those I purchase from. However if a company uses their religious beliefs as an excuse to discriminate or limit the lives of others, they can fuck off. I will not buy a new danelectro product, I will not go into hobby lobby, etc. Other than the vote in America, I can vote with my wallet. It isn't going to hurt them and it keeps me content. However, for me It is less about religion and more about not being an asshole.

Like that whole fiasco with Vik guitars when Paul Masvidal came out of the closet. I generally prefer to help smaller builders/makers when I purchase just about anything, which is why I'm careful on who I buy from, like hell I'm supporting someone who actively endorses that which hurts me/people I love.

ah, the classic "it's okay to discriminate against these people, but not the others because of my limited understanding of history" double standard. Can you tell me what inherent advantages these "megachurch" folks receive that no one else does? Give us some solid evidence of the extra rights and privileges that are granted to all of these people (since you are the one grouping them all together) that are not granted to anyone else. What sort of bonus check is everyone that attends these churches getting in the mail each month? What kind of secret handshake do they use to cut in line at the DMV? Otherwise, you're just using strawmen to justify your garden variety bigotry and hate-mongering.

The list-making rubs me the wrong way for sure. If anyone feels bothered by a company for their business practices or beliefs I'm sure he/she can find out enough about them without this thread and an "inofficial hate list". Honestly, I don't give a shit if anyone is part of a mega-church or mini-sect, if someone believes in the purity of virgin mary or the purity of moonshine schnapps. There is stuff I won't endorse with my money, see danelectro or the gooping cloners, but I have no problem buying from someone with worldviews different or upsetting to me, if the product and price is right and being different or upsetting is the only harm they do. Most variations of christianity will not even fall in the upsetting category btw.

I agree with Ryan that it seems like a lame way to make business but that would not keep me from buying a great pedal from them. I am so lame myself that I could not care.

That's all I really wanted to say too, that there's companies that I don't want to help due to various practices that I consider offensive. And that in the context of this thread some happen to be very outwardly religious.

But yeah, I don't care what anyone wants to believe and we all have beliefs about everything and as long as nobody rings my doorbell about theirs.. I'm happy. And I'm still using my 1-Spot. *big smile*
