Anyone ever make anything using blind solder joints?
We are putting layers of copper plates together using resistance soldering,
Our joints are good but I need a repeatable test
Resistance does not give a good indication because of how the plates go together (nomex insulated btw)
Know of a good test other than x-ray?
Let me know, work related.
also: Don't forget I am giving away pedals on another thread if you give money (any money, even paypal me 5 bucks) toward my friend earls fight with cancer.

Re: Blind Solder Joint Testing
Depending on the size of your joints/copper plates I would suggest a frequency dependent measurement system maybe? If your plates are nomex isolated against each other a simple capacitive measurement could do maybe? Depends on the size of the copper you want to measure. so utilizing the parasitic effects of your copper/solder joints (capacitance and inductance) you could either apply white noise and measure the spectrum to see resonance frequencies and therefore make assumptions about the quality of your joints. But as I said, depends on the size of your plates...

they are 2 inch by 4 inch soldered together in stacks with nomex separating each stack, they will pass resistance with a bad joint so that isn't working

Re: Blind Solder Joint Testing
ohhh ok, now I get it. So the single plates are not insulated, but the stacks are. Well, that basically makes every electrical form of measurement unusable (except maybe some übercomplicated high frequency/runtime measurement stuff, but that's basically out of the question here too...). Therefore you can use optical inspection, as you already mentioned - x rays (although I'm not sure how the copper/solder you use behaves under radiation). I can currently not think of anything better. But if I have an idea, I'll report back.

no the single plates are insulated
it goes plate nomex plate
they create a coil of sorts
put into packets then the packets get soldered together
