My cab guy finished up my 1x10 today sans the speaker, just waiting on Celestion for that

Nice! Did he just clear coat it? Or nothing at all?

a Crate GX130C. I haven't decided what I'm doing as far as detail work. Since it's actually for me. I can do whatever ugly experimental shit.

Pretty sure he just did a satin poly. He knows I hate glossy cabs haha. He's finished all of my cabs fairly similarly with wipe poly. Just waiting on the speaker from Celestion and it'll be good to go!

I've never been interested in any speaker combo less than 3, so what's special about the single speaker?

Skully loves micro rigs. The dude owns mini doom and rocks it with class blasting from his arse.
Seriously. The dude never goes over like 30w in an amp and only ever has 212 boxes at most and he just fucking owns it.
I am always jealous and in awe of what he can do with his rigs.
And the man knows wood grain.
So fucking sexy.

Re: Let's hear about those cab builds you have planned.
hahhahah thanks Pope!
It's funny, because when I was in college, I had a 2x15 and a 2x10 + 1x18 in my apartment.
I had a 4x12 until moved out of my mom's house and in with my now wife.
We have a small apartment, 1 bedroom, 1 bath, with a kitchen. I knew I wouldn't be able to jam anything more than at least a 2x12 when we moved in together, so that's when I sold my 4x12 and got my first 1x12, which was a Verellen cab that I had Ben make me. That really started it all. I use really high wattage speakers in most of my cabs, so that I can still pump a lot of watts into smaller rigs, if that makes sense.
Pope is right in that I don't have anything over 50w in the house right now. Verellen head is 50w, then I've got a 40w Peavey 1x10 combo, a 20w Micro Terror, and my 5w Dirge tube 1x12 combo.
As far as cabs go, I've got an Emperor 2x12 that has 2 Peavey Sheffields in it which gives it 120w of handling. So I can really run anything that I have into it.
My B Custom 2x12 (which I've been using for bass) has 2 PA speakers in it that I got for free from a friend, and has something stupid like 940w of total power handling.
Then I've got my original B Custom 1x12 which has a WGS Reaper 50 in it, so I can run anything that I have into that, cause it can handle 50w.
This 1x10 will be loaded with a Celestion Vintage G10, so I can even run the Verellen into it if I want.
Honestly it comes down to this- I don't play out a whole lot anymore like I used to. When I do play out, I'm mic'd, so cab size really isn't an issue for me anymore.
I also do a lot of studio stuff when I'm able (recording, demos, etc). I don't have the room to have a full stack like I used to be able to, and really, I'd rather have 2 mic's on one speaker than 3 speakers left with nothing on them.
And lastly, since my son will be here in about a month, I know that I will be carrying him around when I've gotta play, so I wanted to get this 1x10 made so that I could have something even smaller than my 1x12 to take with me in case I need to load in and also carry him haha. Also, second reason for the 1x10 is I literally have nothing but 12's. So I wanted something different for recording purposes as well!

This is 1 of 2 in the full stack.
My partner also wants a full stack so we are deciding what stain she wants and then we will go from there.
REALLY happy with how it's turned out!
Brown grill cloth which will arrive tomorrow and then I'll mount and shred!

Looks nice and solid, going sorta the emperor route with leaving the handles just the cut outs? I ask cause they look routed and finished out like the rest of the cab.

Very close to orange dimensions, yes!

I didn't realise that emperor did that - but yeah - it saves a solid amount of cash on handles that frankly aren't overly necessary.
If the round over feels nice, why not just let the wood do the work that the handles would do?
I'm going out to buy tee nuts now for speaker mounting… hoping that the grill cloth arrives when I get back and then it's assemble time!
Question for you SLK, do you always use a brace between the baffle and the rear panel?
I've seen some cabs with and without and wanted your opinion.

Re: Let's hear about those cab builds you have planned.
Yea mid to late emperor started doing the slots like that but more where it's like 4 connected circles for the holes. I thought about it, but to me it's like making the cab ported so you lose some of that push outwards.
I don't always use a brace between the two. Esp with smaller cabs, I don't think it's necessary. It's one of those things that is kinda your call. For that size I like to make sure all is nice and proper so I would. but for some of the tall boys, I have and have not put braces. can't tell a difference between them in anything.
