yeah, i've learned that this is a relatively common way to lose a digit. so weird. i grew up on boats (i live right next to the mississippi). it was news to me.




as far as phantom pain goes, it's still a bit hard to tell what's "phantom" pain & what's residual pain from the healing process, but i do have the sensation that my finger is there. i'm not sure if it's psychological, or neurological. it's strange, though.

My Boss lost a few of his fingers due to a power saw accident. it was a few years ago. he's doing well now, and adjusted. it was scarey at the time.

those boat comments made me think of the time .. i was fishing with a friend. i went to cast my line .. when i did .. a Big splash hit the water ??
it was his sunglasses.
i snagged them off his face - while i was casting out
to think .......... i was less than an inch from snagging his eyeball with some rusty fish hooks

that's awful but a friend of my boss's lost his ring finger the exact same way held on while jumping off the boat, rip caught something and well there when the finger clean off. They were so far out that by the time they got in it was already too late to do anything.

urrrrr i was playing basketball on a sort of ghetto court when a semi-bud dunked pretty viciously on this other guy, then started screaming and wouldn't stop. we finally pulled his hands apart and he was wearing a ring that got caught on one of the net holding dingers annnnnnd degloved his entire finger. mebbe an inch of skin left. was pretty horrific.

beinnnnnng sort of in the hood, someone there donated a rock for him to smoke to deal till they got to the hospital in their hoopty.
