I loved it too
and i am familiar with Walker, but I hoped it would be more subtle? The Ulver collab really sounded like a nice blend, this sounds like Walker singing over Sunn's tracks, know what i mean?
(not a fan of Walker. Which is exactly why I had high hopes. We shall see when it comes out)
(I don'T get Bowie either, so I'm not going to get Walker neither I guess)

I didn't care for it one little bit.
The one sound sounded like bad My Dying Bride outtakes and the other sounded like a rejected Get Up With It session.....
I love what O'Malley is doing with other people though, that Steve Noble collab has to be one of my favorite records in recent years, the last Aethenor LP was AMAZING, and his work with Haino is killer.
Not a Walker fan myself so I had zero expectations......
That was jarring and just really... really... too fucking clear and... and... overly audible for that kind of vocal, maybe it just that part, right?

This If they had just lowered the vocals a bit and maybe added a little verb it wouldn't be so overbearing. Walker has interesting and unique vocals but yeah too much, I couldn't hear what was going on musically behind them.

Because you listen to Sunn for the raw, unadulterated musicianship.

But modulating from one chord to one other chord over a 10 minute period is raw, unadulterated musicianship
This is a release of Scott Walker's music that he wrote for Sunn O))) to perform, not a Sunn O))) album with Scott Walker singing. They're just providing the textures he wanted for the compositions. The vocals, lyrics, and their performance are the focus, with the sounds creating the environment. It's not meant to be anything metal/drone/whatever, and it's going to be very precise in it's delivery at any given moment. Jarring is jarring on purpose. Uncomfortable is uncomfortable on purpose. Expecting a normal/rock mix on any of Scott Walker's output is just going to lead to confusion and probably not really getting the intent.
Moments of this track are probably the closest Walker has come to in terms of the direction of the clip posted. Much of the album doesn't have any electric bass, and it's a very very strange feeling to not have it where it "should" be. Around the 6:30 mark, it begins to build to some momentary heaviness. Now imagine hearing any 2-minute clip of this monster and trying to base an opinion of the mix/album on it
A big part of the album's already been leaked. It's not just the sample.
Also, this is hilariously on point:
I'd also like to point out that I generally regard Scott Walker's output as the creation of a mongoloid love child of Mike Patton and Leonard Cohen, so I'm probably not the target audience for this.
And I'm still pissed that there's no candycane robe being offered.
It's the best I can do right now -- struggling through a hangover -- but if you listen to something like Clara, I don't know, that's the vibe I've always gotten.
side: The only reason to ever listen to Leonard Cohen is to bang chicks that are in or went to art school.
