I started a band with just a drummer so I wouldn't have to teach anyone my songs. I write different kinds of shit, but if it isn't heavy, it doesn't make the cut. There are specific expectations for this particular project, and I plan on living up to them. Other styles I write will get saved for when I'm older and weaker.

Dudes, try EZ Drummer for your drum needs. It's sooo easy to get what you want. I can finally finish my solo stuff now that I have it.

My advice, just focus on finishing one song at a time and see what comes out. Just keep recording and keep playing what comes naturally to you. Even if a song never becomes attached to a band, who cares? It's still music you enjoyed making. I definitely have super eclectic influences and projects going and I find it's best to just focus on each one for a bit once they are defined. My main band is a garage/surf rock type deal and then I just have side projects with 1-2 other people or just myself.

Just play everything (that sounds good to you). Just don't try to play everything all at once.
Maybe try to play whatever sounds good...with a cumulative, progressive focus. That can help introduce some cohesion as you'll linger with certain parts more than others. Allow transition to happen where it does and see where it takes you.
Record everything.
Saving it is up to you...but track it so you can properly experience it as a listener and perhaps find new inspiration to revisit as a player. Play along to yourself...and simple drum beats. Who knows, maybe someday Gibson will name a guitar after you.
