Re: Let's See Your CAMPING GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS/ALLEGORIES/T
I went to a trip up to Moreton Island late last year off the Queensland Coast. You have to take your 4WD onto a ferry across Moreton Bay to get there and on the ferry I saw an ad for Glamping. They have these luxury little huts with TVS and toilets and kitchens and stuff hidden away in the bush and they pick you up off the ferry and drive you there.
Super dumb in my opinion. Defeats the purpose of going to hang out in the bush.

Its the only way some dudes can get their lady to go with them.
Some places do massage and have spas and shit. That's cool and all but don't try to act like its camping. And for fucks sake, don't call it glamping. That sounds like a kind of porn. A kind I don't want to see.

Yeah, glamping is for cunts.
The Moreton Ferry is too expensive, so I won't go there. I'd rather drive up to Fraser.
Although backpackers are slowly killing that, too.

Re: Let's See Your CAMPING GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS/ALLEGORIES/T
Cool topic. My wife and I are gathering supplies to go camping this fall after the weather cools off a bit. We haven't been camping since the 90s, and haven't taken any sort of a vacation since 2007. We're really excited.
We plan on going to Stephen C. Foster State Park, which is a smallish state park that sits on the 402,000 Okefenokee Swamp (national wildlife refuge / wilderness). It is only a few hours away.
It has one of the darkest skies in the Southeastern US. Living in a city, we haven't seen a starry sky in many years. They also rent kayaks, canoes, and 10hp boats that they let you take out into the swamp. We plan on renting a powered boat, otherwise I get to do pretty much all the rowing.
Once we've camped there, our next destination is Cumberland Island. It is accessible only by boat, and is known for wild horses that run on the beach.
We haven't gathered much gear yet, but we're not going to be completely roughing it. The main things we need are a new tent, good flash lights, a cooler, and binoculars. The only things we've bought are a first aid kit, and a pocket knife (the ocean ate my old knife).
So, gear recommendation: Kershaw knives. These things rock. If you carry a knife, check out Kershaw. Mine is a Volt II, under $25 on Amazon. It has been my every-day-carry for 3 months now. It is light-weight and durable, and has stayed very sharp. The one-handed assisted opening is so amazing that I had to take mine apart just to see how it works (it is ridiculously simple). Check your local laws, though. Some of these assisted-open knives are illegal in some states.

Re: Let's See Your CAMPING GEAR RECOMMENDATIONS/ALLEGORIES/T
My usual method is to gather the ten essentials, arrange them inside my Jeep, and then travel as remotely into Death Valley as possible. I prefer sleeping outdoors in the dirt, but the wife requires a tent and air mattress. I am happy to oblige (thus bringing the total to 12 essentials), since most women won't go camping at all.

You should! I sold my acoustic after getting one. Fuzz > campfire balladry.space6oy wrote:this makes me want to pick up a little battery amp.
I've made it my mission to bring as little as possible when camping. Just some sort of instrument, and food/snacks. Shirts make great pillows.
Edit: Oh yeah, knives are handy as well.
