I still think it will need to be a bass with a little bit of treble to it...Hofner Violin, EB-3, Dan Armstrong, Fender Bass VI...they probably have one of those there. :-)

Re: Dutch Kazoo
Now you guys have me really curious as to what this thing sounds like with a bass. I have a bunch of guitars here--but no bass! Glad you like the Bats. If someone goes into Main Drag Music in Williamsburg and tries out a Dutch Kazoo with a bass and reports back here (cell phone video?), I'll send you a Dutch Kazoo t-shirt.

Re: Dutch Kazoo
Most basses have more trebles than a EB-3… those things do sick and wrong things with fuzz cuz of that 30K pickup.. beautiful sick and wrong things.

Re: Dutch Kazoo
Alright, so this is a pretty interesting pedal. I had a lot of difficulty in the last few days getting it to fit into my sound. The big problem with it (for my playing style) is that the volume and fuzz are tied to 1 knob. Well, there are 2 "volume" knobs and the louder you make them the more fuzzies you get. Rolling back the volume knob on the guitar doesn't make much difference. This is problem for me since I typically like that delicate balance of right on the edge fuzz I get by manipulating my knob (TWSS?).
Tonight I hit upon a signal chain that I had a lot of fun with:
Octron2>Sustain Shaman>Dutch Kazoo>Meet Maude with a Realistic Electronic Reverb in the fx loop>Flickinger Spaghetti Western
This was a fun setup for aimless noodling, which let's be honest, is pretty much all I ever accomplish
A key feature is the expression control of the Blend knob. It was a great time bringing it in an out and hovering around the louder/heavier fuzz and the nasally kazoo sounds. Honestly, I think this is a necessary mod to have to really enjoy the pedal (which is free this month by the way).
Before I hit this combo above, I also messed with the Kazoo stacking into an MF Drive which gave me some interesting chimey almost ring mod sounds. But if you asked me to find that exact combo of knobs again, I may have trouble finding it. I think I just got lucky.
The fuzz ain't super heavy and is not going to satisfy you doom metalers I don't think. This won't replace your Pharoah. But if you like more experimental type sounds I think it will be right up your alley. I think I am going to have a lot of fun with it. I can't wait to try it on my Machinedrum.
I didn't try with my bass vi yet, but I don't think it would sound that great. I guess we will see. I already got a Kazoo shirt though

I didn't have much success with that. I tried a few fuzz stacking combos both ways and none were really to my liking.

Great to hear your experience with it! What kind of guitar/pickups are you using with it by the way?Ugly Nora wrote:Alright, so this is a pretty interesting pedal. In the gearmandude demo, you can hear him play with cleaning it up with his strat's volume knob from about 2:00 to 2:20:

Excuse me for already posting this, but here I am using it for "stoner metal."
And if we ever do black t-shirts, I'll send one of those to you for the Bass VI demo should you choose to try it.

I was using a Gretsch 6129T-1957 Silver Jet with TV Jones P90 pickups into a Verellen Meatsmoke amp.
I'll check out his demo for some tips.

Re: Dutch Kazoo
Thanks...was scratching my head over getting the youtube BBCode to work.
Cool guitar! Mark Arm has the same combo, by the way! He uses his Dutch Kazoo with a '91 Silver Jet reissue with standard Gretsch pickups (and a Hagstrom III). I'm always interested to know what guitars people are trying them with.
Oh yeah, what kind of expression pedal did you use it with? I've only tried a Roland EV-5 with it so far (the only exp pedal I have).

You have to remove the s in https to get it to work.
I love old Mudhoney. Saw them in 1993. They were really drunk but so was I so it all worked out.
I was using a Moog EP 2.

Re: Dutch Kazoo
Ah...OK, thanks. It's funny, I saw them in 1995 on the My Brother the Cow tour, and they were really drunk then, too (or maybe just Matt Lukin was). The Cheater Slicks opened up for them and were so loud that I remember seeing a metal guy in a Napalm Death t-shirt holding his ears. Years later, standing outside waiting for a Fugazi show to open, I overheard two guys talking about the loudest bands they'd ever seen...I caught eyes with one of the guys and we both said "Cheater Slicks!" at the same time.Ugly Nora wrote:You have to remove the s in https to get it to work.

Matt Lukin left in the middle of the set to take a piss. That was the first time I've ever seen that happen. Or at least the first time it was ever announced.
