Re: I Love Film
Under The Skin was amazing and unsettling. Man, the part on the beach with the baby really messed me up.
My wife was impressed with how Scar Jo was super hot but still looked like a normal woman. She said "I didn't hate myself after seeing her naked!"
Anyways. Great movie.

Re: I Love Film
that, and when she urrrrr spoiler i guess?
yay! differing opinions!! see..... that's what's so awesome about Enter The Void. i can see watching it in a different frame of mind and thinking it was boring and silly with a cool idea. i dug it so damn much though.
hurm. i hope we disagree on the Guardo Galaxia too. i was kinda interested, then all the good word of mouthy bits has me pretty moist for it. we're rolling a handful or two of humans deep tomorrow night.
NSFW: show

Ditto and ditto about Under the Skin.
I just watched The Ninth Gate again tonight. It's actually a pretty good thriller, I'd say.

Man I totally forgot about the beach part. That was so fucked up.
Also kind of spoilers (why don't we have a spoiler feature on ILF? Like same as the NSFW but it reads SPOILER instead?)
Also totally feel the same about ScarJo. I mean holy shit she's sexy but sexy in a very real way
And yeah I did really dig the concept and the first like hour to an hour and a half of Enter the Void but then it just kept going and going. I would totally give it another chance with another state of mind though.

Yeah, the part you Spoilers'd. That was the part that left the knot in my stomach. That kid looks a lot like my kid too, so it was extra fucked.
It's weird the different things that affect you about movies at different times in your life.
I've seen The Shining dozens of times throughout my life, and occasionally I'll see it and something will creep me out in a new way, or I'll find myself relating to Jack.
Sidenote: one of my favorite bands, Murder By Death (who don't sound at all like you'd expect them to with that name) are playing a show at the Stanley Hotel soon. Wish I could go so bad.

Honestly, unless you like Rocky Mtn Natl Park (which is actually really cool), or a tourist trap downtown with overpriced EVERYTHING, Estes Park is kind of a waste overall. So many better towns and cities in the mountains.neonblack wrote:I've always wanted to stay at the Stanley but i also feel a little overpriced, tourist trap vibes going on. Re: I Love Film
The writing of it just made it a generic superhero movie with a little added humor and more bizarre characters. I couldn't get sucked in to it though because the script was so childish and did not even retain a shred of subtlety. Everything is spelled out for you and you can tell how the script writers want you to feel at each pivotal moment, completely inorganic. It's a Hollywood blockbuster made for the vast crowd of plebeians that were in the theater with me. Not saying you're pleb if you enjoy it but that was the lowest common denominator they were going for.behndy wrote:

That all made it sound like I really hated it but it still looked good and was competently directed. It's fun but that fun is empty and unrewarding. I think this would have changed if it could have been a hard R rated film but ya'know, money and stuff.

Re: I Love Film
Yeah I really think that was my thing, I couldn't turn off this hypercritical part of my brain. I think if I was stoned I would have been more in to it. There was just some hella corny cliches I wish they would have stayed away from but after a few I couldn't stop scowling and it ruined the rest of the movie for me. I still laughed more than I expected though. I'm curious to see your thoughts because in reading through this thread I definitely agree with you more than not.behndy wrote:murrrrrr good to know. i mean, there are certain movies i know i need to kind of shut off a bit to enjoy, now i'm extra interested to see where this falls.

Also I should say I generally hate superhero movies. Wasn't really digging the Avengers either.

I think it's reeeeeal hard to translate super heroes from the comics to live action. I can't think of a super hero movie I've wanted to watch for a long time. The last one I saw that really actually surprised me was Xmen First Class. Despite the fact that it still strayed far from comic book canon, it was pretty well written.

Re: I Love Film
sooooo.... i fucking LOVED it. it started slow, and maybe it helps that while i read the Infinity Gauntlet i never read any of the Guardians books, mebbe it helped that i was there with 5 friends that aren't into comics at all, mebbererrr it helped that i forgot about the slow cheesiness of the beginning because it was so damn FUNNY throughout.

I was curious about the director. That dude has some "gems" in his resume.
