Thunderous. I'm not sure why but it's one of the loudest and punchiest basses I've owned, just the stock pickup in it...

Re: NBD - vintage Ibanez
Punchy - totally! Yeah and talking about that
my colleague at work (guitar store, mind you!) was sort of disappointed and was actually talking shit about the bass. Because this bass has a shitload of mids and not huge bottom end
let me tell you one thing... I wanted a p-bass for the focused, mid-heavy, punchy aggressive tone. If i wanted bottom-heavy bass, I'd be looking somewhere else. I'd buy a jazz bass for example. Compared with basses at the store, this slays all the Squiers, any mexi Fender we have and it actually sounds better than some Sandbergs we have (at least twice or thrice as expensive)
For what it is, this bass is amazing. For example - I don't remember ever being able to play as many natural harmonics on a bass anywhere NEAR this price range.

This bass is pretty much what I want from a bass. Everyone has different ears, everyone needs different things

That's fantastic, especially for a bass.DarkAxel wrote: For what it is, this bass is amazing. For example - I don't remember ever being able to play as many natural harmonics on a bass anywhere NEAR this price range.

When I first moved back to central Mass., I had sold all my gear and had some buddies who needed a bass player...I went to every music store and pawn shop in the area and played everything I could under $600. The feel and sound buried pretty much everything else I tried, and it came down to the ibz and a geddy lee jazz bass with a huge chuck of wood missing for 3x the price.DarkAxel wrote: Compared with basses at the store, this slays all the Squiers, any mexi Fender we have and it actually sounds better than some Sandbergs we have (at least twice or thrice as expensive)
Seems like they can still be had for reasonable money, huge sleepers these roadstar basses (and guitars) are...snobs can turn up their nose all they want until my toanz pound the midrange out of them

pft, your mate is silly. it's not hard to make up for lowend, just turn up the bass knob. mids are so so important. also bottom heavy stuff can be often overbearing or muddy and annoying to dial out.DarkAxel wrote:Punchy - totally! Yeah and talking about that

Re: NBD - vintage Ibanez
Due to bad time management, I only got to try it in rehearsal today
wow
not only did it improve my sound amazingly (great match with my GK), but it also made me play better. I really felt one with the instrument. And it really inspired me to play some great stuff. AND it sounds absolutely fantastic with pedals, ESPECIALLY with Elements doing boomy faux-muff sound with more mids. Even my drummer complimented me for my sound
