So then you really haven't experienced all of America. I've lived in big cities and I've lived in/near the sticks, it's a different world, you can't really compare. I'm not saying every one in small towns are inbred sheep raping fucks but there is a bigger chance to actually meet one...

Have you ever spent any significant amount of time in a rural area? I'm not even talking the South or anything. Just go an hour or two west of Boston, and there are entire towns of people like that. I grew up in Fitchburg, which is relatively urban/suburban. But go 2 towns in any direction from there and it's all 'MURICA FUCK YEAH hillbillies.

OK then. Yes, people like that really exist, all over the place. But you're not going to see them in cities except for the random Jethro and Billy Bob tourists.

I think the drawing is clever. It certainly strikes a nerve in that many will chant "we're number one" over and over while we are losing ground in many ways. Education, prison population, health care, income, etc.
The blind nationalism and belief in American exceptionalism seem more amplified. I don't think they are the majority, but they are loud and think everything they say is correct and very important.
Try to tell them that our founding documents idealism came from the enlightenment and they'll tell you it came from the bible.
Tell them the basis of our legal system came from England and won't even know what you are talking about.
Tell them crime rates are lower than they were 40 years ago and they'll call you a liar.

I know it's the 4th of July, but no one here really thinks of England as an enemy anymore. After the 1800's Americans were suspicious of the British, but after WWII their power was fading. Ours was growing and all the bad history turned in to our strongest alliance. Certainly we've disagreed. Both have made huge mistakes like Iraq (though here in the US no one seems to remember 90% of the population was cheering for that war.) I don't think anyone could imagine either country attacking one another. Someone mentioned pot shots from the English. I've always found it interesting that they seem to be the one country who can make fun of us and we'll usually laugh or at least only be mildly offended. Deep down I think most of us feel like those comments could come from any idealistic American.

The base of the tower in that pic shouldn't be England. To more accurately depict "americanism" England would be a critic watching saying things like "we would have done it better" and the base of the tower would be... the rest of the freaking world.
