The Smart cars are really cool IMHO. For that budget, you might want to look at a Mini Cooper. My ex has one. That was a fun car to drive. BMW engines on go cart frames are a blast. I almost bought it from her. But I decided to buy a new face instead.

I heard the mini's are death traps. :erm:
Maybe they are. I don't really know. I know the Smarts are well built and designed to protect the driver very well. Not much storage though.

Thumbs up on the Smart Car, but think about packing that up with boxes when it's time to head to the post office for shipping...

I say Prius! If you 1) don't mind buying one that's a year or two old and 2) can look beyond the tree-sniffing aspect, it's a fantastic car!

45-50 real life MPG, in-dash 6-disc changer and great sound, in-dash rear-view back up camera and GPS, all air and audio controls are on the steering wheel, and also on the dash's touchscreen.

You can get a 2007 in like new condition (with a 50k-ish miles) for $13,000ish...

Whatever you get make it black so it matches your guitars.

My dad has one, they're built like tank, take a look at the engine, it's beautiful!

On others cars the sheet metal warranty is for 10 years against corrosion, with mercedes cars, it's 30 years.

Honda Fit. Small, but you can stuff a ton inside. I'm not sure whether you can get a leather interior beyond the wheel and shifter. But you should check them out. Cheaper than a Mini-Cooper too.

One of my best friends has the hatchback Yaris and absolutely loves it. He gets in the high 30's for gas mileage, the hatchback and fold-down seats means you can fit a lot of crap in there, and the stereo system is pretty good. Not sure about leather, he has cloth. But for an economical car, it really is pretty darned good. Plus, its gonna last for freakin ever. I've never had a japanese model last me less than 200000 miles

I hope not, I have one!

Devi, you're not short though, and neither am I and when I am driving it, the backseat is pretty much useless, if that makes a difference to you.

If you can get an 07 Prius for ~13k do it. They aren't the most rugged, br00tz looking cars but I like em, you can't beat them for mileage and w/ those extras for that price you're getting a deal. Just, if you know someone who's good with cars, take them with you to look at it. There're so many little things that 'can' go wrong with those cars, but Toyota makes some high quality stuff so it's not always that 'everything' that 'can' happen, does. I drive an 07 Corolla and the only issue I had with it was the computer dying and the dealer fixed it at no charge, so Toyota gets my vote and more so the Prius :)

that Prius is crap, if you consider into the equation how they are made(all the batteries etc...) they actually leave a larger carbon footprint than your average V8
