With that being said 1200 for any 612 is a good deal, esp with those speakers. I think when they were in production they were about double that with their stock Celestions.
With those speakers the deal might not be bad but I don't think the 6x12's were at $2400.
They weren't always great about getting quotes back to people but some lists used to float around here and there. A few years back I seem to recall people getting unloaded 6x12's for in the $650 range. Loaded with Jensens brand new was right around a grand.
Secondary market loaded with nice speakers... I don't know. $1200 is probably a decent price but you might be able to offer less and snag it if you've got the scratch.
But that doesn't seen possible cause my friend got 2 emperor cabs about 3 years ago and it cost him 900 each and they were just 412s not even Hoovercraft's unloaded refurbished 612 cabs were that cheap. Just color me shocked because I haven't seen any that cheap except used peaveys online.
Well I don't think I'll be the first around here to utter these sentiments but I think that Hovercrafts prices are grossly inflated. $900 for the Emperor 4x12 seems decent-ish. On the higher side but given their popularity and lack of competition back in 10-11 it makes total sense. That being said, I would then think that $1200-1500 would be the going rate on a 6x12 new. So used, a few years old, maybe with some wounds, should be a bit cheaper. I mean -- you know what it COSTS to do this type of shit because you do it. I don't do it so I don't know the cost but I can't imagine the wood used in 4x12 vs. 6x12 is adding that much more to the expense. Definitely adding some labor based on size and then certainly adding more on speakers.
Ultimately I think that with a niche market like 6x12s you can charge more because they're not readily available. Mother fuckers in their worship bands aren't buying 6x12's because Dumble doesn't make that shit.
There is a smaller market for a 6x12. I'd make an offer that's a bit lower and see if he bites. If he's looking to get rid of it he'll probably take it. And i'm not talking about some low-ball shit, I just think he's valuing this quite high. Of course if he doesn't need to get rid of it then he'll hang on to it and it's all said and done.
True it's not too much more for the wood depending how it's constructed though in my case I have to buy 2 sheets instead of the once, so therefore it automatically doubled there. additional 2 speakers so a 50% increase in stocking it in speakers. Burn up more stain, sand n seal, and poly. so say 15% increase there. More wiring, more screws, it's almost like building a 412 and a 212 not totally but pretty close.
But overall I'm saying I haven't seen a brand new 612 for under 1800. Which partly lead way to me building my own and if I'm build any for anyone else I'm not going under what is standard asking from what I've seen, it's just too much work and everything to just give away. So I think 1200 is a good buy, yea certainly I'd try to get it for cheaper but I really don't think he's at the top end of it. Esp with around $600 worth of speaker upgrades in it.
The reason I bring up Hoovercraft cause actually overall their prices are cheaper just taken at face value, not for what they are, for what they are yea overpriced but i mean as in a 'new' cab is pretty close in price to what that guy is asking and that's unloaded.
