Ebay issue, need some advice
So, I sold a Boss OD-3 on ebay last week. For pedals like those, ebay has a stock item description available, so I used that, rather than type up my own explanation. So I sold it and shipped the pedal. Yesterday the buyer messaged me and is upset that there isn't an AC Adapter with it. He says the item specifics say it comes with one. I looked at the listing, and in the ebay stock description, it says "power supply: battery, ac adapter." I took that to mean that it works with both, not that both were included (because how often do you buy a Boss overdrive pedal that comes with an adapter anyway?).
So, what do you think I should do here? This buyer has already been a little problematic (messaged me right after the sale telling me to send him tracking info for the package, even though I had listed it as Economy Shipping, which doesn't come with tracking. I ended up sending it to him Priority Mail, just to be nice), and I feel like he is going to leave me negative feedback anyway. I'd let him return for a refund, but I don't think that will keep me from getting negative feedback. I get the sense that he really wants me to buy him an ac adapter or send him some of his money back and let him keep the pedal. Neither option is particularly good for me, considering we're talking about a pedal I sold him for $40.

That's how I would read it too. I'd explain that and then offer a refund.onyxrhino wrote:.... "power supply: battery, ac adapter." I took that to mean that it works with both, not that both were included...
If he leaves negative feedback, I think you can file some sort of thing to have it removed
if you can show you did everything you could to make him happy.
You should also check out Reverb as a decent ebay alternative.

There's no way that should be taken as meaning "ac adapter included". Guy's a dick.

Pretty much this.Eivind August wrote:There's no way that should be taken as meaning "ac adapter included". Guy's a dick.
Plus it's technically illegal to ship a pedal with a battery in it. (Not sure if you did.) You can explain that to him.
He's definitely expecting too much for a $40 pedal. You've already gone beyond the call by shipping w/ tracking for him. Though I'm sure he didn't really appreciate that.

tell him kindly the situation, explain that in the history of forever Boss pedals have never come with PSU's, if he leaves negative feedback: Find him on facebook. We'll badger his account until he e-socially dies?

Even new, compact Boss pedals don't come with a power supply. If they do, it isn't OEM and inclusion is at the vender's discretion.

If you go to the Boss website, it lists the power supply as an option/accessory in the pedal description: http://www.bossus.com/gear/productdetai ... rentId=254
Could maybe convince him with that.

Carefully explain to the dicktard thatEivind August wrote:There's no way that should be taken as meaning "ac adapter included". Guy's a dick.
1. your listing did not say that a power supply was included
2. that "power supply: battery, ac adapter" means those are the two types of power supplies the pedal accepts. Link him to the boss site and http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/ ... i9P4_w_wcB because he probably doesn't understand words.
3. Offer him a refund less shipping.

I'd tell him to go fuck himself and take the negative feedback. I'm so tired of assholes on Ebay. Sucks because Paypal is fucking stupid and backs them over the seller. The whole site is dumb. Sell on Reverb dude.

If the buyer files a claim with Paypal, there's a very good chance he'll win. Three options :jwar wrote:I'd tell him to go fuck himself and take the negative feedback. I'm so tired of assholes on Ebay. Sucks because Paypal is fucking stupid and backs them over the seller.
- tell him off (at the risk of losing both the pedal and the money)
- try playing his silly game (offer him a return and a complete refund as the only solution and hope that he'll let go)
- cave in (partial refund as middle ground etc...)
Having been ripped off too many times by shady buyers, I'd say fuck it and risk losing the money just to be a pain to the bastard. But that's me. I've been told I'm mean.

Future reference: never use stock descriptions.
Always include "Item works, but sold as-is."
Take the slightly lower price and be able to tell morons to eat sand.

Thanks for all the advice and confirming what I thought.
Here's an update: The guy wrote me back and said "without an adapter, how do I know it works?"…So, I'm thinking he is just new to the whole guitar pedal thing and was confused. I explained to him that it works with a battery. I'm hoping we're good. We'll see.

Re: Ebay issue, need some advice
Yeah, lesson learned, no more stock descriptions for me. The thing that was really irking me though was that I did take a lower price (I wanted to sell this quickly, because I wanted cash to pay for another auction I had just won). I actually sold it at BIN for quite a bit less than they have been going for (and part of that was because I was planning to ship it economy, but I even upped that to Priority, just to be nice, when the guy asked for a tracking number).rfurtkamp wrote:Future reference: never use stock descriptions.

That's definitely what it sounds like to me. If you didn't know how pedals work (and maybe were a bit slow), you'd likely think they should come with their power supply. Hopefully he'll be cool once he figures it out.onyxrhino wrote:Thanks for all the advice and confirming what I thought.
