yeah, with lotterys its hard for all of us to really comprehend just how big those numbers are, that make the odds.
people see/feel the small numbers, like the 1, the 17, the 28, but we cant really comprehend the vastness of the combinations.
and also we cant comprehend just how many people there are, so when wee see that somebody has won we think that it could be us next time.

whereas the reality is like going to a beach and choosing the one tiny grain of sand that is going to be the lucky grain

The odds of winning a lottery is unbelievably slim. Statistically you would have better chance of banging a supermodel whilst orbiting the earth in a space shuttle. Sad but true.

I work in a restaurant currently, putting all that time and money I put into my education to good use. :whateva: I have a pre-interview skills test for a part-time library job in the morning though, so hopefully that pans out and I can get my foot in the door.

I'm dealing with a bit of a fucked up situation with my current restaurant job though; my direct boss has been really phoning it in lately and taking ridiculous amounts of time off while leaving me to deal with what is supposed to be his work. I got fed up and complained to the general manager about what was going on (it had been noticed, but management didn't realise the extent of it). So it seems that I now have a promotion and my boss is getting fired tomorrow. He was just going to be demoted, but he didn't take that news well and had a freak out which apparently included yelling at and threatening the owner and pounding on a table and knocking over a chair.

I feel kind of shitty about this, the dude has worked there for over twenty years and I don't think ever planned on leaving (unless he managed to turn his hobby of competitive pinball into a full-time career). If I hadn't said anything, this wouldn't have happened. But at the same time I shouldn't blame myself for him not doing his job properly, should I?

No way man. You're not at all to blame for his behaviour, and good on you for standing up for yourself!

Oh he's a huge asshole. I likeable asshole, but an asshole nonetheless. I'm pretty damn confident that I did the right thing, but I can't help but feel like kind of an asshole myself for being the catalyst in this process. He would have eventually been fired anyway, of that I have no doubt, but I certainly sped up the process.

I work for a Business Software company, all HR/Learning related stuff. It is actually pretty big in that industry and our clients are over half of the Fortune 500 and 3,250+ other companies (>45 million users worldwide).
I am in a spot where sales and marketing meet, business development. Basically I am on the phone all day, the salary is okay, the commission is okay, benefits are decent, add it up and it is a nice job. I am content, for now.
