I have made an appointment for my first tattoo! So excited!
Little less than a month from now. Apparently it can be done in a couple of hours so it's a go in and go out quick dealio.

A kind of a custom variation on the Color Circle. Based on the additive mixture of colors if that's what you call it. The way light mixes so that all the colors add up to white, not black. And green and red gives you yellow etc.

It will form a sort of star, very geometric and graphic and then the three primaries red, blue and green will fade into a more watercolor look. I guess I am doing a terrible job of explaining it. But it will be gorgeous!

Oh, cool phanta, I guess it'll be rad!
A close friend of mine is a tattoo artist, he's pretty good already and just keeps on getting better and better, I think I might have some ink done at some point too.

A question for the experienced:

Apparently the dudes at the parlour I'm going to don't like the whole aftercare stuff, but I think it might be good, seeing that I will get many colors and I want to preserve them as long as possible. What is you guys' take on aftercare? Do you use lotion, do you use that cellophane wrap stuff? A friend of mine got a new tat the other day and she was all wrapped up. Should I do that for myself just to be sure, or is that bullshit?

Thanks.

Keep it wrapped in glad wrap with your lotion/stuff until you need to shower that night. Gentle wash, get it clean, then reapply your goop and wrap for sleep. You may also need to keep it wrapped to stop it sticking to clothing for maybe a week, depending on inks used, size, your healing factor etc. You will weep for at least a few days, just keep doing it. For fucks sake, dont let it dry and scab.
Don't swim in chlorinated pools or get sunburnt. Don't go boozing and dehydrate. Ocean bad. Ocean=bacteria.
Pawpaw ointment for the fucking win.
This shit if you can get it.

Aftercare, or GTFO.

interesting. i always have read more air is better than wrapping it because it gives an open wound less chance of stewing in it's own juices.

i only have 4 tats, but i only have them wrap it if it's a place clothes is going on, then take the wrap and clothes off as soon as i'm home. wash gently with an anti-bacterial soap 3-4 times times a day, use no perfume, no [i forget the name, the fat or lanolin?] lotion on it once or twice a day after the first 2 days. Aveeno Baby Lotion.

but they always scab up right? that's part of the process? lol. i don't mean noticeable anger crunchy stuff, but when a little bit of color flakes off a week or so later that's the scabs being done and going away ne?

sounds like an awesome design Phants! can't wait to see it!

Never heard anyone say to keep it wrapped. I always take off the bandage/plastic wrap when I get home and gently wash and pretty much leave it to heal, using a thin layer of lotion only if it gets super dry.

Lots of research later I now know that both the taking off and keeping it wrapped are possible methods. Taking it off is generally preferred because wrapping requires a big amount of caution to keep the wound and wrap clean.
