Yeah, I am pretty sure that is the exact drill press that I bought at the beginning of March. Looks the same, right?



If so, it is a Delta 14-040 14" bench drill press. The one I got was from an old guy in a retirement community who used it to bore out golf club shafts. He got it from a guy in Virginia, who was an FBI agent and used it for machining gun parts.

I have the original manual and parts diagram, dated 1988. If you want a copy, I could probably figure out a way to get you one.

It is really nice. I have already gotten tons of use out of mine. Drilling, sanding, countersinking consistently to an exact depth. My favorite part is the depth stop. You can either use it to limit the downward travel of the bit, or lock the bit down and prevent it from going back up (useful for a little sanding drum). I plan on buying one of these for it.

My favorite use for it, so far, was as part of a pin router setup for making pickguards. I mounted a small router table to a piece of MDF, and drilled holes to bolt the MDF to the drill press table. I chucked a 1/4" piece of steel in the router, and positioned it under the drill press. I tightened the drill press on the steel rod-- perfect alignment-- and bolted down the router table. 1/4" straight bit in the router, and 1/4" rod in the drill press. Double-sided tape holds a template to the top of the workpiece. The router cuts wherever the rod is, so you follow the pattern and get a perfect copy. I used it to make a perfect p-bass pickup cutout, which requires 1/8" radius curves.

i have my own lil construction buisiness PZ
so all this adds to my capabilities
being able to handwork stuff in my shop
as appose to buying prefab stuff at lowes
theres alot of old houses around here too
i find myself substituting lesser grade materials and crap finishes
if i can fabricate in my basement my value to customer goes way up
cause we dont have to pay a factory wherever to make it
i get paid to make it
i get paid for materials

also i need to get into fine finish shopwork on a professional level
not sure how many years i can do demolition to finish by myself
so this shop is my retirement plan
the goal is to make pedalboards and cabs for your kids
i know you guys willput in a good word for me

Big ups to Mike for being a great guy and always doing super nice things.
That Habanero powder you sent me is still going strong and always finding its way into recipes.

I got a tap and die set the other day.
Cheap as hell, but I'm only using it for aluminum so it's alright.
The thing that really chuffs me about it is that the smallest tap is too small to use the handle with.
So that's sorta bullshit.

I'm gonna have to convince my boss to purchase a band saw eventually.
Hopefully soon.
It's really something we should have already, honestly.
Anyone have brand recommendations?
