(speaking as a 19 year old here, it can be annoying when older people don't take you seriously, I've been overlooked because of my age before even though my playing level and commitment was more than adequate)
yeah i would be pretty bummed if i got overlooked only on age, i guess i probably would if i put myself out there more i would probably
'just a number' etc, give it a shot i say he's probably equally feeling odd about it

The only reason I say 21 is bars. We play at bars. I'd feel awkward having someone have to wait outside before the set and then have to leave as soon as it's over.

18 makes more sense. I think it's ridiculous that you can own and drive a car at 16 and then at 21, drink legally. Kinda backwards. Learn if you can hold your liquor before you get to have a 1 ton death machine I say.

If that was not an issue here it would be all about the skill and if the person can act responsibly.

As long as you're between 18 and 35 I don't really consider it a weird gap. If youre talking late 20s with 40s that might be odd.

But I've jammed with older people. Never been in a serious band in that sitch, but yeah. If you're all on the same page in terms of taste and commitment and whatnot, it shouldn't be weird.

In my covers band, the singer and drummer are both 40, I'm 34 and our guitarist is 27. We get along great and have plenty of common ground for musical tastes. It has a lot more to do with the personalities than the ages, really.

I usually say over 21 as a rule because of the bars thing here in America. When I was 23 I was in a band where our singer was 20 and he had to sit outside in the van until we played. I've also never played with anyone +/- four years of me so I don't have experience with large age gaps.

Thats pretty much the only thing Im worried about. His taste in music is questionable, too. He thinks post-hardcore means pop-punk with breakdowns, while I am of the opinion that Fugazi and similar artists fit that description better.

Semantics, really.

I don't mind so much on age unless like this circumstance before with my grind band where it turned to a recording project mainly and he sent a message about wanting to come play guitar for us. he wasn't old enough to drive nor had actual gigging gear. We meaning me and the vocalist were 27-28 at that time. Just politely said sorry neither of us would be going to pick him up to practice, let him use my gear, nevertheless be able to book any show he would actually be allowed to get into.

 I agree, but then will someone explain how bands that sound like hatebreed but screamo have been called "hardcore" :picard: back in my day hardcore was… ok back in my older sibling's day…. ok ok… back in my middle aged cousin"s day hardcore was Black Flag and Minor Threat :picard:

Topic… I've played with people a lot older then me since I started playing… :idk: big deal...
