looking at the S&P Shield. comes in 40 or 9. HURM.
That is just insane.

Let me tell you guys a story, slightly relevant.

The other day, I was waiting in a median to turn left across three lanes of oncoming traffic, and this guy stopped in a line of cars in the closest lane, to let me go, but I shook my head no because I can't see the other lanes in that situation, so it's stupid and dangerous to go even though he's waving me. So he points at me and mimes shooting me with his hand. You know, when you point with your thumb up, and lower your thumb like the hammer. That shit pissed me off so much. That's easily a death threat. This guy is probably a ccw permit holder, going around threatening people, hoping someone gets mad enough for him to use his second amendment rights. I've got a firm grasp on my temper though. But I should be able to drive without some asshole threatening me.

I'm still a strong supporter of gun rights, though. Look, criminals are bullies and lazy and go after easy targets. More good people armed is a safer society.

i hope he's not armed. i only know gun owners from family or ranges i've gone too or gun rights activists (my dad is super active). every one of them are VERY educated and smart about firearms.

those are the kind of people i would be ooookay with having a ccw.

I have one of these as my "carry gun", but I rarely actually carry. It's a FEG PA-63, like a Hungarian copy of a Walther PP in 9x18mm. It's well made, light, and small and was only like $150 but it's a surplus thing so idk if they are readily available any more. Only holds 7+1 so should be Cali legal?
Other than that have you checked out the small Kel-tecs? I've never really got into polymer frames but my uncle has one as his daily carry gun and it's super slim and nice to shoot. I think it's available in 9mm or .380.

If you get a kel-tec, be prepared to do probably do some clean up/fine tune work. Like setting up or fret jobbin' a new guitar.

Can't go wrong with an m&p shield, shit you can't go wrong with a smith, though on a budget much like that feg I had a polish p-64 that was 9x18 makarov. Very close styling to the hungarian, double action trigger was horrendous but single was nice. 6+1 capacity and can be had at that sub $200 mark. pretty accurate with the blowback design too

lol. problem now is trying to find the version of the Shield that's CA legal. WOOT

only difference is a tab that pops up on top when a round is chambered.

and apparently S&W is lagging on getting enough made, even though there's mad interest.

silliness. ABOUNDS.

yep. that's the only difference. i'm thinking about doing the Single Shot Exemption thing if i can't find one of the Cali versions soon.

laws out here are fucking ridiculous. like, no, i don't agree with gun control laws on principle anyways. but like everything else that gets passed out here , they just don't make SENSE.

You could try the Ruger LC9. Pretty sure it meets Cali requirements (even down to the loaded chamber indicator). A buddies' mom carries one, which I have shot. It is SMALL though. That being said, I could make single handed shots on target with it from 30yrds+ or so (that and super close is all I tried with this particular firearm). Considering most defensive shooting scenarios, take place from 5-20ft or so, the long range firing was more a test to my/the guns control-ability.

Was just thinking. I know you probably have your heart set on a semi auto, but have you considered one of those small
.38 five shot hammer-less revolver's. From what I've heard those are great for concealed carry purposes. They are accurate, no risk of jamming at times of crisis and can be fired from inside a jacket pocket. And because of the lack of external hammer they are fast to draw when you need it. I'm sure its probably legal in your state too.
