One take, Serge And Modcan A modular, E-Mu Command Station doing the beat. I should have wiggled one knob a bit for a key change earlier. It is kind of repetitive at first but it definitely gets more interesting.

My band is normally pretty loud and fuzzy. We've released something a bit unusual, with more blues in it than we probably intended. This is it -

Scratch track for the metal band I'm playing bass in. The guitars are off from the drums and bass but I want any comments on the drum/bass sound.

First time with an audience in a few years; I got to do an Encore with Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks! That's Malkmus on bass. Still haven't really had a conversation with him, but a couple of his bandmates are old friends.

my band that nobody likes (psychedelic film noir, all over the place, singing) http://gunslingbirds.bandcamp.com/

soundtrack work that people seem to like (electronic, atmospheric, instrumental). http://scotthallam666.bandcamp.com

:idk:

I never get feedback on the first thing which through the grueling course of time I've come to assume is an if-you-can't-say-something-nice situation.

I'll bite, and critique the first thing. I listened to the first track, and the drums and vocals are slightly off-putting, which makes it hard to listen to. This is one of those situations where it's hard for me to tell if the drummer has chosen an off-putting beat or if he just isn't able to groove with the song well, but it makes the song harder to listen to. The vocals aren't an acute problem, but they could sit better in the mix. I think the "nobody likes" vibe of the first band may come from the groove.

The ambient soundtrack stuff sounds much more assured to me.

Thanks for listening. :) The drummer was trying to do this kind of staggered, syncopated, broken beat based on the idea we were going for. I totally see how that could be off-putting!

I appreciate you taking the time, maggot, thank you! :)*

Sounds tasty. I'm always jealous of peeps who can make that kind of bass tone sound good. Maybe a little bit more in the high mids and a little less lowend to distinguish it from the kick a bit more? some bits get muddled (esp. when your drummer goes all in on the double kick).

Working on a soundtrack for a short film currently, this one didn't fit the film at all, but I really like it.
