I've fallen in love with instruments made out of domestic wood lately. There's a Dismal Ax double cutaway floating around online that I want so bad, but have zero funds/justification for buying. I'd really like to incorporate some more interesting domestic wood into builds for myself in the future, I'm keeping an eye out for a good lumber connection when I go to trade shows for work.

His custom build prices are remarkably reasonable - we're talking Monson prices or less, although Monson's woods are more traditional and his shapes are more "metal."

One of the few makers who has a good headstock design.
I don't know why but I'm so critical of headstock design.

Yeah I'm picky about headstock design as well. I lucked out with my Monson as its one I hadn't seen him do before and I absolutely love it.

Headstock design is a make it or break detail for a lot of people. There's a lot of really good instruments that people dismiss out of hand because of headstock designs, rightly or wrongly.

I realize that it can be shitty to place so much stock into it but when I take into consideration spending good money on something I'm going to play I definitely want something that's pleasing to the eye.

But I think we all feel pretty similar.

Still getting to know it, and I may not be the best person to solicit for an opinion in any case - I'm still pretty n00b about comparative amplification and dirt flavors - but I'm really enjoying it. I knew I wanted a pedal that would produce a good Marshall JCM-type mid-gain crunch into the Laney's clean channel, while still retaining the feel and dynamics of a cranked tube amp, and the research suggested that this one would fit the bill well. I've got it set for a Pelican-type tone, which it renders beautifully; it's nicely sensitive to both picking dynamics and volume changes on the guitar. I haven't messed with the internal Lead/Bass switch and presence control, or tried running it at 18v. The PGS review and the official Catalinbread videos pretty much clinched it for me, so those might be worth looking at (sorry, no embedding on the iPad).
