I just bought a single medium scale 0.095" bass string for the E rather than a whole set if you care about a cheap solution. I just wanted to see what gauge would work, still planning on a full set at some point.

ALSO I have an unrelated question:

My bass VI needs volumes on fuzz pedals to be set loads higher to be unity than my jag. Is this just it having weak pickups? I tried using a booster in front, but obviously this makes cleans louder too, and it increases volume MORE on cleans than on fuzz so it only makes the problem worse.

Any solutions other than getting real pickups?

I keep seeing people say that but it confuses me.
Doesn't it come stock with a 0.095" for the E?
Not sure if this is a stupid question but why would a different 0.095" make a difference?

I think 100 makes for a nice E, used a 104 as well. Mine's currently tuned 1/2 step down with 110-84-62-46-36-25 and it feels balanced to me. The stock set had a buncha tension on the high end so I didn't mess with it too much but nowhere near enough on the low end for my taste. Took some trial and error with different gauges until I finally landed on the current set.

Because it doesn't come stock with a 0.095" low E. Their website is wrong, it's actually a 0.086" or something around that. Switching up made a world of difference.

Ah that makes a lot more sense now. I was wondering if that might be the case. I might just start there and work up to a full set as well. Thanks

I want to bump the lower string size up a bit but it's annoying that I can't find a good 6 string set for sale - they all have like .130 for the low E which seems insane. Probly gonna have to buy singles. :\

Just picked mine up!

Sounds so unbelievably dirty. Bass VI + SS/BS Buzzz = HEAVY
But the low E isn't even tuneable its so damned floppy.
I just ordered a custom set from LaBella. I can't wait for those to come in.
Also probably going to order a Staytrem.
Not sure if the Staytrem will go on the Bass VI or the JM though. Currently have the Warmoth Modified Mustang bridge on the JM

Nice - where did you get that one from (which L&M, as I assume that's where it came from)?

It came from the L&M in Oshawa. I ordered it sometime in September I think. They were pretty good about it even though it took so long to get here.

You know, I thought it might be from Oshawa... I just returned a white Bass VI to there last week (picked up a Sonic Blue VMJM) after buying it from there in January. I'm wondering if it's the same one? Is yours brand-new or was it discounted? Were the posts wrapped when you got it?
