CALLING ALL TRAYNOR GURUS!!!!

Found this beast on craigslist labeled as a 1982 Traynor Bassmaster 350, some google searching yielded nothing for bassmaster 350 but I was able to loate some YBA-1 pictures that match the head dead on. He wants $350 for the head plus 2x15 in what seems to be amazing condition, but I can't find any info on the head! Anyone? Help? Watts? Tone? Worth it?!?!?!

Yeah, it's just a later YBA-1. I think the 350 is just confusing, because that's the price. There's no "350" model, that's definitely a YBA-1, just later production run.

You could sell it without the cab for that price pretty easily, assuming it's in good shape/

If it's a YBA-1 spec, it's 45W, if it's a 1A it's 90...I think. They're very conservatively rated though, pretty huge transformers. My '70 YBA-1 is 45W I think by spec and it's loud (but not that clean loud), with some pretty honkin huge iron in it.

They break up so fast. I played a YBA1 yesterday and it sounded awesome. Super crunchy with volume at like 10:30

Interesting.... I was thinking of getting it to run as half of a stereo bass rig. But at 45w I'm not sure it will keep up with a 100w 2xKT88 NMMV amp....

And break up is def not what I want for the bass rig.

Well there goes that idea... :mope:

I think volume wise it would be ok, with the right cab, but if you don't want breakup then it's not the right amp. I've gigged with mine into my 810e and it was perfect for just the right amount of breakup for me at the volume I wanted, to compete with 2 guitarists playing 100W tube head stacks. Trying to keep it really clean would definitely limit the usable volume a lot.

Yeah I like my amps to be super clean so that I can add the type and amount of grit that I want at any volume.

P-bass > Dunwich clean boost (on 250hz setting) > Rat (gain low with vol cranked and filter around 1:00) > Wizard > 810e is fucking perfect, I just wouldn't mind a second amp to add some extra low end in. Guess I'll just have to pick up an Ampeg 2x15 and save up for another Dunwich....

That's why I'm getting the Dunwich 300W head, super clean loud pedal platform. When a few people were giving me guff about that ("why would you even need a head with that much power? It won't break up!") I pointed out I already have the Traynor and it's loud enough to gig with if I want breakup. The only options I have for really loud with lots of headroom are solid state. If you want something that's loud enough to keep up with the Wizard into the 810, but stay super clean, maybe just go the preamp/poweramp route. Either that or get a nice big SVT blueline that will pump volume without too much breakup, if you want clean for tube and not just objectively super clean.

There's really nothing wrong with solid state amps, tbh.

We think alike :thumb:

I almost jumped on a rack Sunn 1200s on ebay with a tuner and power conditioner that was on ebay. It went for $450 shipped in a 8 space rack... :picard: before that I almost jumped on a rack mount Meatsmoke Pre I was gonna run into a Peavey IPR2 2000 then into 2 810's.

My dream would be to get a meatsmoke pre and then run it into like 3 peavey power amps with 6 810's hahaha 6000w and 48 10's.... I could finally keep up with Sunn O))) :yay:

But realistically I have no use for that much power. :mope:

For Bass? Agreed Most definitely. I prefer tube pre's with SS power amps but some all SS amps are amazing, look at the old acoustic amps.
