If I buy a Bugera 1960 will I hate myself for it? Lately I've been gassing HARD for a LOUD tube amp, and I'm finding a lot of them for under $300 used. So yea or nay?

Ha! Definitely not. I've never plugged in a delay and instantly been like "yep, this is perfect." I don't foresee it ever not being a part of the mix. I've heard of the opposite reaction, but for me and what I want, it's fucking awesome.

I kind of break pedals into two camps:

instant love/always on: ss/BS anything, ad4096, Mutron Phasor a friend had. Oddly enough, my Freeze is almost in this camp. I kind of love that little fucker.

and

Pedals that are a slow burn, more tactically used. It takes more finesse to get them integrated, but once they are in, they are in. Typically these are the odd/progressive things I buy from EQD, and I could even say the mooger foogers are more in this camp.

Both have their place, but I am always a sucker for instant love.

I thought they had build quality issues? I know the first runs did. Not sure if that got ironed out or not.
If you were going to get to do some of the mods out there for it, maybe your tech can fix anything at that time?

I'm in the same boat. Been looking for lots of headroom. For between $400 and $700 you should be able to find some kind of loud ass silverface fender. You can have any decent amp tech clean up any master volume issues. While talking about loud…when I got out of school I literally had about $50 in my bank account. I went into a pawnshop in my wife's home town that had a Sunn Solarus half stack for $500 or $600 that I didn't have…I still feel that pain. That is still a decent chunk of change, but I'd really like that amp right now. :)

They did but I figure where it's almost an exact clone of the Marshall 1959 plexi and where I'm living in Eugene now. I don't think I should have trouble finding a good tech to work out the kinks in it. Still no guarantee I'm gonna get something awesome, though :erm:

I know there's a ton of stuff in that price range, I just don't have any speaker cabinets either. I'm thinkin' I'll sell some books, make a hard decision about which of my fancy pants delays to keep, and I can get somewhere between $500 and $600 in amp money. While I could get a pretty good head for that money I still wouldn't have any speaker cabs. It would just sit on the floor of my room and look sad until I got the money for a cab.

A Sunn Solaris would be real nice  It's always sad when stuff like that happens.

did you see the two 4x12 fender cabs for $250 in Eugene right now on CL? The description makes them sound cosmetically challenged, but the price is certainly right...

It's really only the one. The other's just an empty cab, but for $50 I might be convinced to fix it up...

Big Chief loves it, as far as I recall. A lot of the build problems are a result of the early production run and the internet rumour mill, which manages to bypass all logic. Simple circuit, big transformers, cheap, loud as shit. :idk: Can't go wrong.

To be honest I think what Bugera means is that it was cheaper for them to trash it and give you a new one. But that's kinda what I was getting at - the circuit is so dead simple that I even think I could probably fix it, unless one of the transformers went. But new shit dying does suck big time and shouldn't happen regardless of the price point really, cos it's just bad QC. Played a gig with a band with 1 guitarist running one of those V55 things, and it sounded insanely good. If it was a single channel amp I woulda bought it.

I've played the 333XL and it actually sounds way good for the money. The built in high gain is pretty heavy

Yup, I'm definitely inclined to agree with you goroth. Whenever I've tried out Bugeras they sounded awesome! I remember a/bing their v22 against some nice Marshall amps and the v22 sounded so much nicer  The internet rumor mill tends to get out of hand when it comes to any sort of QC problems.

what part of my statement you don't understand?
If you buy cheap, you buy twice.
The 1960 was originally under 300 EUR street price. And no, i didn't get a new one. I got the money back. After 5 months of wait. At that time the new street price was 400 EUR. But beside that i wouldn't have bought another one of these after this experience anyways.
If you have money to burn, go ahead and get one. I would invest in sth. more reliable...

And as side note on the 1960: it is by far the less ballsy take on a plexi i ever played...
