Anyone gone the custom route from G'n'L, and know about how long it takes with them?

I haven't ordered anything custom in a while. I guess the last custom thing that I personally ordered first hand was a my Verellen cab almost two years ago and I was pretty patient about it since I had another cab to use in the meantime.
Thanks. I just sent the monies....

Funny you should mention that. My G&L was custom ordered. In fact, I'm under the impression that they do a lot of custom stuff. I ordered mine a good 10 years ago ( it's already been that long!) but it only took them like a month and a half or so. I went through a local shop/dealer, too. I don't know if it would be faster to go directly through them these days or not. Mine wasn't really all that customized other than that I chose what woods, finishes, and hardware I wanted at the time. Assuming they're standards are comparable to what they were then, you'd be getting a seriously kick ass instrument. I remember the guy who I was gong through to order it telling me a story. He was visiting a convention or something back then and there was a G&L booth. He said he met someone whose job was carve the cutaways..... I dunno how much truth there is to that story because it was 10 years ago, but yeah.... that's some crazy attention to detail.

Only done it once, still in the waiting stage, and I'm totes patient because the plan is just WHAT I WANT and no production thing is quite right (except more expensive and extremely complicated stuff so like, no)

Okay fine. I was going to wait until it was done, but fuck it. I'm getting a Hex Guitar built by the folks over at Hex Cabs. We're just working out the final details. I'm fucking stoked. More than worth it IMO.

Yeah I saw that, I was hoping for more details. What is it made of, what pickups, color, what special custom features etc. But if you rather wait until it is done, that is cool too.

So, Gentry Densley owns Hex cabs, right? Did you work with the man himself on this?

Yep. Well, for the most part, I think. He's been really cool about the whole thing. I asked him every question under the sun about the guitar. We're even going to design a unique body shape.

I just keep myself preoccupied with other activities, like refreshing my email's inbox for hours on end.

Guess I qualify now that I ordered a super secret custom Dirge thing. :doom:

As far as waiting for, ANYTHING really, I've never really had a problem with being patient seeing as I have alot of ways to keep myself entertained here at fort roses. I guess I couldnt do any wait time that was a year or more (looking at you, EGC), at that point whatever im getting better get the sweet lord himself giving me personal handies or else its not worth it.

Just like finding exactly what I'm looking for on the second hand market at the price I want....these things take time. Had a two ta three week wait on a pedal to be built recently and its arriving tomorrow after only one week :omg: , so that's cool. Sometimes takes many months to find a piece of gear.

UG problems.

You're right though, finding the right shit is hard. Patience is definitely required.
The beauty of custom shit is that it should be a no brainer.
Exactly what you want.
I can wait for that.

Also another thing that will help me in the future. If I can wait 3 months for a squier, I could handle waiting a whole lot longer for something custom.

Got any pics of their guitars? Google was not my friend.

I don't care how long stuff takes with custom stuff, but bad communication and missed deadlines drive me up the god damn wall. When I get a long lead time on something I preoccupy myself by gassing over other stuff and sending myself broke while I'm waiting.
