Bear in mind that I was just suggesting out of the two he posted. I never said its what I would recommend to you.Bossk wrote:I like that i didnt have to answer any pf those questions for that. Thank you for the info. Those speakers seem relatively cheap. Now to (eventually) build the enclosure.
One of those speakers handles more watt's then his entire 4x12... That would not equate to similar perceived output. Good tone? Yes. Volume? No.whiskey_face wrote:also you want ev15Ls for 15s HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNG

thats a good reason to use separate heads for each speaker cab, then you can just adjust so that everything is at a unity level.

Re: Post Your Rig: Doom Edition
Tis trve!!! You can balance things out numerous ways, like my 6x12 and 3x15: the 6x12 is 390w but a higher sensitivity and the 3x15 is 300w and lower sensitivity. So If I crank it up the 3x15's speakers gets pushed harder which equates to a louder perceived volume which helps in balancing with the 6x12, its still not completely equal but its damn close. But your correct one head per cab if the speakers are different does make it alot easier to balance everything out to unity.AxAxSxS wrote:thats a good reason to use separate heads for each speaker cab, then you can just adjust so that everything is at a unity level.

Ive been pushing lots of lowend into my 1518s with good results, what cab did you put it in.
Also....i totally disagree with using power handling as a measure of percieved output, most sensitivity ratings are done at 1 watt of power.

An Emperor 2x15, still got the one with the blown voicecoil out in my garage.theAntihero wrote:I've been pushing lots of lowend into my 1518s with good results, what cab did you put it in.

Yes but through testing numerous different cabs and speakers in them I've found that power handling has alot to do with volume. In the same 2x15 I put Eminence Delta ProLFC's which have a near identical sensitivity to the 4x12 cab it was paired with (loaded with WGS ET65's) but was 4 times the wattage rating. It was never anywhere near as loud as the 4x12 and when using the same head through each of the cabs independently I would have to turn up the master volume atleast 2 more notches with the 2x15 than I would with the 4x12 to get the same perceived volume. Yet my other cab pair (higher wattage higher sensitivity 6x12 + lower wattage lower sensitivity 3x15) is way closer to unity volume than the afore mentioned pair, even when using the same head to power either cab.

Hmm, weird is the Emperor ported maybe? I built a sealed cab for mine.
It could just be the frequency response of the speakers you are using, treble and mids usually "sound" louder and in your case the LFC is more made for for lows and the et65s are more mid orientated

Re: Post Your Rig: Doom Edition
Yup two 2.5" ports in the front baffle. I should also point out that I blew the speakers using a 4 string bass in B using an octave fuzz (+1/-1) with an amp thats output was near the maximum rating for the speakers (250w power amp maxxed while the speakers combined have a max handling of 300w) so I can't completely blame the speakers which were designed for guitar... but thats what I get for buying a used "bass cab" and not checking the speakers from a company thats known for not always putting in the speakers the customer ordered....theAntihero wrote:Hmm, weird is the Emperor ported maybe? I thought about that but the LFC's actually have a very flat response all the up through the upper mids and have plenty of mid range content, just very little to no high end. The ET65's have a big mid range punch to them like you said, but it was a more than noticeable difference for speakers with near identical sensitivity ratings. But also from what I understand sensitivity ratings especially from smaller builders cannot always be trusted as to have all speakers rated for a true rating which can be measured against other speakers from any manufacturer every speaker made would need to be tested in the same facility, with the same mic, at the same distance, with the same amp, in the same cab (well you'd have to use an "infinity baffle") using the same software. None of that is ever done, most companies do their own testing with their own equipment. So you can compare eminence to eminence with no issues, but WGS's sensitivity measurement could be very different from Eminences. This is a tough subject to handle really as you have two sides, the scientific and the personal experience. The scientific isn't standard across the board as they would like you to believe, and not everyones ears are created equal, causing distrust in all methods of measure.

Re: Post Your Rig: Doom Edition
All true, Emi always seems very high on sensitivity. For a comparison i love mixing v30 and Swamp Thangs, the Swamps are 2db higher rated yet they both come thru. My theory is that the big mid bump that the v30s have, the Swamps dont have really anything there, so the mixture ends up sounding like a massive v30, the Swamp fills all the freq that teh v30 lacks.
Im not suprised you blew the 1518 with a bass, although im actually impressed it held up that well
