A couple of us started on a Python class:

HT, how'd you do? As it turned out, I didn't really have enough time to work on it to my satisfaction. It was good to be taking a class again, though.
I just signed up for the Jazz Improvisation class for kicks.

hey there, i'm planning to have a go at that one for a bit of fun.
i did the jazz improv one a few months ago and didnt finish it and found it quite annoying, but hopefully the songwriting one is more fun.

post your stuff here as you do each task :)

i have been meaning to try more of the courses but not got around to it, i saw some interesting things like crime scene forensics

firstly i'm not 100% into that kind of every beat chord change jazz style, but i did pick up a few ideas .... i'm trying not to be a whining bastard ..... but ....... the thing that pissed me off about it is the peer review marking system

what happens is every week you submit a recording for the weeks lesson/task, and then you anonymously review 5 or more other random people's work (you are sent the links), and some random, anonymous people are reviewing yours, and you give them a mark and leave a comment.
the marking system is 0,1 or 2
so, every week i listen to a bunch of mostly boring, bland and often really struggling/out of tune recordings, and i mark them fairly and i always made the effort to leave some kind of encouraging, positive comment.
and if they made the effort and fulfilled the criteria i gave them a 2, if they really struggled and were out of tune i gave a 1, and the 0 is for didnt finish the task at all/complete disaster.

so a few days later when i get my results back i get an average compiled score of 1 .... 1! .... and crappy comments like "you need to play more 16th notes" and various meaningless snotty comments.
now, if gary burton (its the gary burton course you are doing, right?) was to mark my submission and tell me i need to play more 16th notes thats fine, i can accept it, but 99% of the peers that i reviewed were boring/bland/crap etc, and those are the people that are giving me crap marks and comments - wtf!?!?! you are a terrible player and you are leaving me snotty comments and talking like an expert?!?! i heard you play, you're shit!
this happened every week and pissed me off so i gave up doing it.

ANYWAY .... thats the long, rambling, bitter and resentful answer ....... the short answer is that the whole 'peer review' system SUCKS, and means that your work is being assessed by a bunch of people who are in no position and with no ability to assess anything, so i would say just do the lessons for fun and to see what you can pick up, but dont expect any worthwhile feedback

Sure, I was thinking if it seems to be a decent course we could maybe do our own side study thing. We'll see how it goes. Let's get back in touch after it starts.

I was thinking I'd just watch the videos and not get too hung up on the assignments.
