Someone please help me with game emulators?

Post by Moustache_Bash »

Hi, hello, I am computer retarded.

I'm trying to use ZSNES, and play DK Country 2. This is what I have so far:

So, let's load this sumanabitch:

Clicked GAMES, and then....

Clicked SNES, and then....

AND THEN, AND THEN, AND THEN, AND THEN, AND THEN!

There's nothing there. What do I do? I have 7Zip, does the file need to be extracted or something?

Yeah, you gotta extract them first with 7Zip. I don't know why everyone uses it to compress the ROMs when there are like no emulators that can play games straight from the archive.

I think it's just because that's the way it was done 15 years ago, back then we needed the files to be as small as possible because of the slow internet connections and the download limits.

Thanks, guys. That was super easy, and I don't know why I didn't extract the files before going through the effort of making that post

Hmmm, only problem I have now is every time I do full screen (alt+enter) it goes black and freezes up.

Yeah, this could be. After having broadband for so long, it's easy to forget all the little details from before, like how you had to wait half an hour to watch a Flash animation

Maybe try running Windows in 16-bit color mode. Does the game load up and run if you're not in fullscreen?

A caution: some of the emulators (not necessarily SNES ones) require the files to be regular ol' zips, so you can't just willy nilly extract stuff.

I have an actual SNES that I bought in the stone age so no need for an emulator.

I'm a MAME guy, old as even it is now.

I will check this out then. Thank you all gentlemen.

And rfurt, I wish I still had mine. I prefer gaming on an actual console than on my computer. Unfortunately I let my brother take it to college, and he sold it. The fucking fuck. I had Mega Man X, Maximum Carnage, all kinds of good shit. Even Mickey's Magical Quest. That game was off the hook, you get to travel to hell in it.

Man, Disney games were the hardest of that era. The Lion King on Genesis is fucking impossible...
