that's precisely what makes the souls so good. I'd say they're more like fighting games, with each weapon having its own range, speed, damage, and moveset. compare the combat of skyrim, where you stand next to a grizzly bear clicking your mouse and spamming health potions until one of you goes into a ragdoll physics freakout. After 278 hours of dark souls, skyrim plays like a parody of a video game. I still kinda like it, though.
Ah, I tend to roleplay in Skyrim, no healing in battle, no fast travel, Master/Legendary difficulty. I pretty much exclusively play stealth, if i'm fighting then i've probably fucked up and will die.
I think that Bethesda designed the game to allow you to immerse yourself in anyway, you don't have to use logs or maps- you can if you want. Yeah, it's not as good as Morrowind but everything changes the older it gets.
I'm having a lot of fun doing some of this stuff in Skyrim. My next playthrough/character I want to be very very stealthy and just see how that works out for me.
The sheer immensity of the number of quests I keep getting can be occasionally overwhelming.
That's exactly how I play the game. Makes it impossible to kill dragons until later in the game though.
I just absolutely love walking up behind a bandit, while invisible and sneaking, and cutting his throat with a knife. Such a satisfying kill animation
Anyone can just run around in Full Ebony armour with Healing Hands and a Sword in another. You'll slay shit, but it's almost like being a demigod in that universe.
Continue?9876543210 looks total fucking horseshit.

Source: Havel the Rock.
Also, I've played 158 hours of Dark Souls and haven't beaten it, probably won't by the time DS2 comes out
Yeah. Havel is tough at first, but once you get his moveset and range down, he isn't so bad.

All this Dark Souls talk makes me want to play that.
Was planning on Ni No Kuni next.
I definitely don't spend a lot of dedicated time with games over short bursts because work has me keeping such odd hours and finding time to make music and hang with the waifu.

Yeah this Dark Souls talk has got me watching playthroughs on YouTube now. I wish it was better set up for PC though, I don't really want to hook a controller up
oroandpeeve might be the best playthrough of anything ever. They're co-oping modded dark souls (ng+7, perma-gravelord, aggression mod). It's well edited, chaotic and hilarious.
disclaimer: I'm an engineer with DigiTech/DOD good deals

I'll check some of these out. I tend to just watch Media Cows anything, because they're the only people I can seem to stand. I've seen so many walkthroughs where I just want to kill the commentor
Achtane wrote:Currently playing drunk Tera. Apart from the creepy pedo vibes from the little girl race, the game's fun. More actiony than Guild Wars 2, lots of mobs to gather for AOE wrecking, purty visuals.
Upsides: Combat reminds me of Neverwinter MMO, an underrated game.
Downsides: pedo bait, bikini armor everywhere. I tend to make female characters for some reason, but not if they're crazy ridiculously sexualized. I wonder why.
Also, my friend's played 72 hours of World of Warcraft this week.
72.
Hours.
Played. Not AFK.
Pfft that's nothing, my old paladin I have 187 days of logged playing time. Not adding all of the other toons I rolled.
Never. Again.
Started Dark Souls again a few nights ago <3 Played Boarderlands 2 and loved it, after my dark souls play through I may head back to it and do a play through with Zer0.
Still need to finish Deus Ex and finally play XCOM.

My roommate first year ended up dropping out of University because of his WoW addiction. The other roommates and I would make fun of him to his face and he wouldn't even register it because he was so engrossed in the game. No clue how many hours he logged but it's got to be quite a few.
Don't think I could ever play that game; it's an addiction I really don't want

I'd only worry if you have a penchant for unfun grinding

Yeah, it's just as grindy as other MMOs, but disguised. At least the quest system sometimes throws you an interesting one at the end of an area, though. It does have slightly better quests than a lot of MMOs, but when you go from area to area a lot of the quests are rehashed. Kinda like how they throw the same enemies at you that you fought 10 levels ago, but this time they're bigger or with a different color palette. You can either do a bajillion quests or you can do dungeons all fucking day long.
When you get to 80 it is soul-crushing to do a 20-minute dungeon and find out that it only filled your XP bar by like 5%. I can't play WoW or any other MMO that uses the more traditional, less actiony combat system anymore. I got to 87 and just couldn't go further. Why am I doing this? I'm doing this because I'm paying to play this game. I have to keep up with my friends, who fucking play all day every day. I feel obligated to play this game because if I'm not playing it then I'm not getting my money's worth from it. It's like paying a company to work for them.
I know the raids are the "core" of the game or whatever, but after all that slogging I no longer give a shit. This is why I don't play subscription-based games anymore...I'm constantly progressing towards this one point in any MMO where I realize that it's just gonna be the same old shit after this exact moment. I've reached the full depth of my abilities in this game. And then my will to play is instantly dead.

It's a little buggy but it's basically HL2 with a little bit of the first Bioshock horror thrown in, graphically it's almost Stanley Parable. It's free so no excuses.
