Minimal Setting Movies
I wasn't sure what to call them - movies that basically take place within a single room, or just a few places, and are usually mostly dialogue. I have seen a couple recently that I liked. "The Man from Earth" and just watched "Sexy Evil Genius" last night. Any others that are good?

Re: Minimal Setting Movies
12 Angry Men and Glengarry Glen Ross are the first two that spring to mind.
I'll be back later with more.
edit: I'm sure there's got to be one adaptation of Waiting For Godot that doesn't suck, and I'm in the middle of my first coffee or I absolutely would've recommended one of my favorite films of all time--Withnail and I

Re: Minimal Setting Movies
12 Angry Men is an obvious example, and is a great movie.
Another one that I thought was really good was "Conspiracy", which was an HBO movie about the Wannsee Conference. As long as you can accept that they're speaking English with British accents rather than speaking German, it's pretty damned good and has an awesome cast (Kenneth Branagh, Stanley Tucci, Colin Firth, and a bunch of other "that guy"s that you'll recognize if you watch it.

Not at all what you're going at, but Cube was filmed entirely in a 15x15 cube.

Awesome flick. The second one wasn't as good though.snipelfritz wrote:Not at all what you're going at, but Cube was filmed entirely in a 15x15 cube.
Also perhaps not at all what you're looking for, but look into the films of Šarūnas Bartas.

Re: Minimal Setting Movies
didn't Lars Von Trier start that filming philosophy of minimalism? or was that more actors than settings?
Burial was all in one "room", not the best movie though.
CUBE IS SO GOOD.

http://cinetext.philo.at/reports/dogme_ct.htmlShooting must be done on location. Props and sets must not be brought in.
The sound must never be produced apart from the image or vice-versa.
The camera must be handheld. Any movement or mobility attainable in the hand is permitted.
The film must be in colour. Special lighting is not acceptable.
Optical work and filters are forbidden.
The film must not contain superficial action.
Temporal and geographical alienation are forbidden.
Genre movies are not acceptable.
The film format must be Academy 35mm.
The director must not be credited.
Of course, the best thing about all the Dogme movies is that not a single one of them actually hits all of those.

Richard Linklater's SUBURBIA springs to mind. Giovanni Ribisi and some other folks as teenagers
standing in front of a convenience store from sundown through early morning.
I'll also agree that Cube is great, although I personally prefer the vibe of the sequel Cube 2: Hypercube

The Killing Jar is one of my all time favorite movies. Horribly underated. All takes place In a diner. I highly recommend it.

Sam Shepard's True West...It's a play, but a movie. The whole thing takes place in the kitchen. Awesome. Does that count?
