Cooking and Eating
What are you guys favorite things to cook and/or eat?
Right now I've got a roast in my crock pot and I'm really excited about it.
I eat a lot of hamburgers, sandwiches, and tacos, so I'm always trying to change them up so it's not always the same thing.
Anyone have some good tips for making simple meals better?
This ONE WEIRD TRICK will make your hamburgers awesome?
Burger joints HATE you?
Talking about Ramen, cereal, and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches is also allowed.

I'm only eating raw food, so my favorite is running a zucchini through my noodle maker and mixing up some spicy tomato sauce.

Bruncle brofather, track down a spaghetti squash.
One weird trick to make your food taste better: A couple drops of Worchestershire or soy sauce.

You know, I have yet to try tofu, but that sounds like it could be pretty good.sylnau wrote:My favorite recepe is Basmati rice with tofu, some vegetable, good spices.

I stayed with my brother a while back and he made curry, and it was incredible and filled the whole house with delicious smells.
UG, that sounds intriguing. I remember my mom made smoothies with shaved, frozen zucchini in the place of ice, and it wasn't too bad.
Are you just eating fruits and vegetables without cooking them or what? What all does "raw foods" encompass?
YESSSSSS. I love adding both of those things to my burgers.futuresailors wrote:Bruncle brofather, track down a spaghetti squash.

Re: Cooking and Eating
Here is a delicious and nutritious snack I created that will satisfy your sweet tooth, stick to your ribs, and cause you no guilt.
1. Take about a tablespoon or so of raw honey ( I use Really Raw Honey brand http://www.reallyrawhoney.com/) and nuke it in a bowl for about 15 seconds to liquify it.
2. Mix in a handful of raw almonds.
3. Add some quinoa and mix it up again so that all ingredients are distributed.
4. Slice up a banana or 2 depending how hungry you are.
5. Top with cinnamon.
6. Nuke again until hot.
7. Enjoy

Thanks for the heads up, most winters i get some spaghetti squash. Delish. I usually use a bit of Braggs Liquid Aminos for extra flavor. Their Apple Cider Vinegar is tasty too, and part of my morning routine.futuresailors wrote:Bruncle brofather, track down a spaghetti squash.

Sounds good Syl, what's this cari you're talking about?sylnau wrote:My favorite recepe is Basmati rice with tofu, some vegetable, good spices.

Oh, and +1 on the Worchestershire or Soy Sauce that futuresailors mentioned, though for me it's usually a splash or a few instead of drops.
A dash of fresh lime on any curry just before you serve it also really opens up the flavour, I love that.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

Yup, just what it sounds like...raw fruits and vegetables. For me it means no cooking as well. No pasteurized beverages. No processed foods, other than running fruits or veggies through my juicer/mixer etc. I grow wheatgrass and juice that. Sprout like a madman. Love me some sprouts. I will eat Ezekiel sprouted grain breads, but usually just sprout my own and use my dehydrator.PetZounds wrote:sylnau wrote: UG, that sounds intriguing. Re: Cooking and Eating
You guys and your healthy food...
Anyone remember that crappy Mexican chain, Chi-Chi's? They closed down back in the middle of last decade. The food wasn't great, but I did like a few items they made-- the chili con queso during happy hour, and seafood enchiladas. Neither of them are particularly good, and they are definitely not healthy. Regardless, I am making them both today. I found a couple of recipes posted by a guy who claims he was a cook there, and that his recipes are straight out of their food manual. We'll see.
Otherwise, I cook up a storm, and I'm good at it. We rarely go out to eat, maybe twice a year. I do everything from homemade ice cream (I have a badass ice cream maker) to molecular gastronomy (found some Agar Agar today), and from traditional pulled pork to a 15+ course Thanksgiving dinner that people travel thousands of miles every year to attend.
Unfortunately, my food choice has been limited for the last couple of years while I've had some major dental work done. Just a few more months and my implants will be healed and ready for teeth, and I'll be able to eat any damn thing I want. I. Can. Not. Wait.

^When you say agar, do you mean the nutrient agar paste used to grow microrganisms in petri dishes? Because It smells alot like chicken soup. Does it taste like chicken soup?

It sounds heavenly, I will definitely have to try making it sometime.
Also, has anyone tried making apple cider at home? I read some recipes about making it in the crock pot and it sounded really good.

Re: Cooking and Eating
German red cabbage is currently my favorite food. Toss that with some stone ground mustard at the end of cooking and try not to finish a whole head in one sitting.

A recent time I made it I cooked it with pineapple juice and something else.......for some reason can't remember at the moment........but OH MY GOD YES

Edit: oh yeah it was just red wine vinegar and pineapple juice.

Agreed. That quinoa honey and almonds thing sounds delicious.
An ILF'er who doesn't post here any more turned me on to this delicious poached-eggs-in-diced-tomatoes dish. That was pretty tasty, I'll find a link to that thread later.
