The problem with you and aen is that you've both the depth of a milk saucer. My attraction to rebecca dirks, while it has a deal to do with her being cute, was mainly that she was a positive, sincere female with an honest to god talent in a world full of aging corny christian blues and worship dudes or pimple-faced virginal tool fans. Noone liked watching gear interviews because they were ten times out of ten absolute shit. The interviewers either didn't know or care what to ask or were too overcome by fanboy anxiety to ask the right questions.

Rebecca, on the other hand, was chill as fuck and genuinely seemed to enjoy what she was doing. The artists always seemed really laid back around her and it showed in the interviews. Fast forward to the tone report and now she's doing the same boring shit everyone else is, only its her there monotonously announcing things i could read for myself in a fraction of the time as if to say "yeah I'm here and I'm fucking hot who cares what actually goes on in the video you're just here to see me".

If thats all she thinks of her viewers than she deserves to be mocked sexually, so i do, although of course you just so happened to pop into the thread the second that started, completely ignoring the fact that we've been discussing her personality for pages before this, but thats all you're really interested in isn't it? Helping aen sell pedals and chiming in from time to time to lord your women's perspective over us cavemen. You know it really pains me too, one of my first posts here was a review of a dwarfcraft pedal. You could say if it weren't for dwarfcraft, i wouldn't really have been introduced to small build funky sound effects. Five years later and id never buy another dwarfcraft product again. True you've taken my advice and upped quality of fit and finish but at the end of the day i just can't stand either of you. Aen and I never saw eye to eye on a great deal of things and i used to try and respectfully agree to disagree but neither of you are like that. I haven't chimed in on any of this because I haven't ever watched any stuff of Rebecca Dirks, but I've grown really skeptical of this ^ over the past few years. Almost all of my male friends have moved away, so pretty much all of my friends here are women. They say way worse - shallow, critical, etc. - shit on the regular about men than anything I hear from men about women. Also, in the night jobs I have had in the past (bars, event planning, etc.) the behavior of the women I had to deal with was just ridiculous. And, it wasn't isolated. It was every night. In my last job I would always be working with one female partner, and it was very rare that she got any shit from any of our male customers, whereas I was constantly having to deal with the inappropriate antics of our female ones. And strangely (to me at least) it was worse with the older women. Women over 40 man... If I was reporting all the "sexual harassment" I would have spent all my time doing that, and not had any time to actually do my work. I had the misfortune one night to work a bachelorette party... the things I heard that night... it's really hard for me to believe that women are any better than men in regards to this kind of thing.

That's all obviously my personal experience - anecdotal or whatever - but unless you're telling me that every other woman in the world is different than the women here, I don't know man.

I think my argument was quite rational. True, you did pick it over to find the easiest parts to irrationalize and ignored the meat of the statement which contextualized them but whatever. My point is, if I'm offered money to take part in a venture which is clearly exploitative and solely predicated upon the circumstance of my "sex appeal" then, while i clearly admit that I'm "taking the money and running", i must also admit that i am profiting from said exploitation, and cannot cry when i am criticized on those bases.

And honestly this is the crux of the argument. When we talk about shit like this, establishing a clear distinction between bad behavior or indignity from or towards either sex as being different vis-a-vis the sex of the transgressor and in terms of societal more's we play right into this same essentialist bullshit that i can't stand. Behavior is simply that. Behavior. It doesn't matter who makes more in the work place or who has daddy issues or who had to fight for the right to vote or who's ancestors were owned at one time. If i call a woman a cunt, while i admit that there are those who would do that solely because they hate her based on her sex, the chances are far greater that I'm calling her a cunt simply because i don't agree with her behavior.

Making something which is, without your essentialist context, just simple rudeness into a great offense because of historical trends or some personal sexual slight from the past that chances are you've never actually endured yourself and which is only really understood by you is ridiculous and patronizes the "victim" like they're some kind of noble savage. As if i can't behave rudely to a woman ever because of the societal wrongs some perceive as being projected towards them still. Like i should totally know that and know that because someone somewhere has disparaged a woman at some point that if i don't cowtow to every woman i meet and hold them far beyond the line of contempt, regardless of their behavior, that i am aiding in that disparagement.

Did i call someone a n*gger? Did i infringe upon someones right to vote? No. Did i make blanket statements about sex/race/persuasion? No. She's a public figure profiting off of her perceived sex appeal so you can get me for sexual harassment, its part of her brand, it can be discussed. So what this really boils down to is behavior. I said she used to be a lot more attractive but now she isn't. I made a joke about her tits and her ass. Was i kind of a dick? Yeah. Was i using context to discuss other things? 1. I'm not certain this is directly related to anything I said. It's within the sphere of the topic, but that's it. And, considering neither I, nor anyone I know, was alive when voting was granted to men and not women, all I can say is: 'I was never consulted on it.'
2. I could as easily say that women weren't drafted for military service, and that the time period during which women weren't allowed to vote is greatly exceeded by the time period in which men were conscripted for military service. Also, when people talk about voting they act as if it were around for eons. The time during which most men were given the right to vote, and when women were given the right to vote, is actually very small.
3. I have read that more men at the time were in favour of women's suffrage than the number of women that were in favour. This was due to a fear among women that the right to vote would be paired with the potential to be drafted for military service. Also, of the men opposed, many if not most were so, not for sexist reasons, but because they feared female voters would tip the scales in favour of prohibition. The issue was more about the availability of alcohol than gender. And, once women in favour outnumbered women opposed, women's suffrage was quickly granted. (I'm uncertain of the details on these bits of information. It was along time ago when I read this, so if someone wants to verify or refute this information, I would be interested to know whether it is credible).

Erm, before I start down what will become a very pedantic path involving phrases like "dominant cultural lens" and shit like that, I'd like to point out that I got a very good deal on a snowboard today.

I want to chime in here and say that A. Justin has you guys by the balls here and B. the notion that women are property without a right or say in how society is governed is actually not something that originated among white males. What I really wanted to get at when I first posted wasn't I think how it came across.

What I mean to say is that people tend to overestimate their own moral standing (and that of the people in whatever group they happen to belong to), and at the same time underestimate the same for others. The truth is that some people are good, some people suck, more people are good than suck, most people that suck probably don't suck as much as we think they do, there is less distance separating the sides of many issues than we think, and that instead of being offended by everything we should all just acknowledge that - in the words of Hitchens - we belong to "a species that's about half a chromosome away from being chimpanzee." If there is something you think needs to change, work on changing it in your personal life, but don't go out expecting others to do the same if you are unwilling to. I treat women well, because I think it's good and right, and because I think that good people in some way "raise" the world up around them. But honestly, if I treated women the way they have treated me - with more exceptions than not of course - I'd be spending the better part of my life in jail.
