good gawd i love the time we live in. like, i'm super bummed that all the REALLY awesome stuff like virtual HUDS and unused brain space becoming organic hdd's and wetware being wired for sound and wifi and video ALWAYS is just around the corner and i might be too old to truly enjoy it......... but fuck. right now is AWESOME.

i just spent about half an hour looking around for bluetooth or wifi interfaces to turn my phone or 'pad into a remote to control my home audio stuff, and freaking Apple has a free app that as long as you're controlling itunes (or apple tv but..... dunno about that) than you can use your phone..... or pad........ as a remote.....

the app is called REMOTE.

DURP.

BUT. so fucking awesome that specific little computer based shtuff like having a always accessible library of what movies i have on disc, or controlling play order and volume of an audio pc or....... fuck. so much.

THERE IS SO MUCH THAT IS SO DAMN EASY AND COOL TO DO NOW THAT WE HAVE CRAZY FAST COMPUTERS THAT OCCASIONALLY MAKE PHONE CALLS.

there's so many awesome weird little program things now that the internet is verbose as butts.

so, on a PC, if you use itunes, there's no way to set a timer. so if i want to listen to 45 minutes of music so it stops after i fall asleep (i DO), no go. BUT. someone wrote a little tiny script app that lets you choose a place on your desktop, and it will click the mouse. and you tell it how many minutes until it should.

so, launch itunes, play music, launch app, tell it to click on the Play/Pause button of itunes in 45 mins, BOOM.
SLEEP TIMER.

I had an iPod touch 2 and my roommate had an iMac with iTunes. He didn't have an iPhone and would leave his music on a lot so I started fucking with him and turning it up and changing songs. Eventually he caught on and I turned his music off she it kept me up at night. Good ol remote.

I just got the ipad for the holiday and I'm learning how to use it with my tv and stream videos directly from here to there. It's awesome.

If anything Apple's designs on their own products and operating systems are what, in my opinion, make them a cut above the rest. The age old debate doesn't need to be had. I love my Apple products with very few qualms about things. And I'm totally on board with iTunes being kind of a bitch in the Windows world.

That being said, the remote App is FUCKING AWESOME. I have my computer and stereo in the basement. I will Airply from my computer to my Airport Express which is connected to my stereo's aux channel and then I rumble the fucking basement. Then I just use my iPhone or iPad to change the song or album. It's such sweet shit.

I just bought the wife a Chromecast for Christmas since we got a new tv so I could move the old one into the basement for maximum Skyrim times. Since I was taking the PS3 we needed something to do Netflix and Hulu on the TV upstairs and I opted for the Chromecast because it was so cheap and came in a small package (of course, if we end up hating it I'll be headed straight to the Apple TV but that's besides the point). I set the Chromecast up using my iPhone and my wife was able to access the Chromecast almost immediately with her iPhone. Super breezy setup. Very cool shit, this technology stuff.

no, if you're talking about the way Apple stuff integrates with each other super easily? yes. they do that right. they excel at that.

it's the forcing you to do everything their way (layout, control schemes, proprietary cables etc) that anoiys the shit out of me. let me get under the hood a bit. let me change stuff tp fit the way i want to use it.

lol. YESH. do not need another APPLS ROXD NO PC FOREVER debate. i'm just saying they frustrate ME with having potentially wonderful products tarnished by assuming their target audience is a bunch of ham fisted gitty retards so here's a child's interface CAREFUL NOW.
