do movie theaters still use film reels to play movies? or do they just like press play on the blu ray player now?

This place does. Reel to reel and a little bell rings when he has to change the reels mid movie. He had to do that while i was up there. But most places are all digital now. My roommate worked at a small theater for a while and got to keep one of the old projectors when they went digital last summer. No idea what to do with it... we're thinking about just setting it up as a decoration.

Yeah and there's a bank of lights that indicate something or another, each light is colored glass, kinda like an amp jewel light but 4 times the size

Hahaha, when I bought my 6 string bass the guy lived WAY out in the suburbs so I, not having a car asked my dad to drive me out there. we get to the house, and it's like on a nice street but the house itself was obviously inhabited by a band, or multiple bands, the lawn was unkempt and there was pizza boxes and beer cans all over the porch. My dad turns to me and says something to the extent of "I'm giving you 15 minutes and then I'll assume this guy is raping and eating you and I'm just driving away. I don't want to get raped and eaten"

Of course when I went into the basement it was all good and we talked about how awesome 6 string basses are and then I bought it and came out and my dad and I went for hamburgers. But then his car broke down and we had to have it towed and I had to go to work and the bass did not come with a case so I'm carrying this fucking ridiculous Ibanez BTB 6 string bass around on the subway and then home after work.....

Weirdest thing I've heard of on vend.se, local CL, was the drummer in my band trying to buy a snare. They'd agreed on a price and a meeting place then the guy says my mate had to pick it up from the guy's home after 11 pm and like an hour out of town. Anyways, after a few more attempts to purchase the guy raises the price and says he's selling to someone else. Next day it is back on vend at a lower price than what my mate offered. The snare had been for sale for a couple of months - guy's behaviour explains a few things...

I always kind of chuckle at the really ridiculous ads I see constantly reposted..... There's a guy that's been trying to sell a Gibson SG for $1200 which is about $50 under the MSRP. He's had the ad up for literally a year, and I see it reposted all the time. NO TRADES. NO LOWBALLERS. IF AD IS LISTED IT'S STILL FOR SALE.

I don't know what's worse, the no compromises guy or the guy that lowers his ridiculously priced Flying V by $10 every week....

heaviest CL experience was purchasing a guitar from a man with a terminal illness in the parking lot of my childhood junior high. he was eating an ice cream bar when i got there. felt like a dick afterwards for getting him $50 under.

love the sg copy though!

I sold some gear to a guy that was terminal (3-6 months), he said he couldn't leave his house anymore and would really appreciate it if I could deliver. I never deliver but figured I could make an exception. He wanted his sons to inherit gear instead of money. So I delivered, took about 1h of busses to get to his place. he bought the gear at the agreed price, so no major foul. But 3 years later the guy is still emails some of my ads, guess he wasn't really terminal. :poke:

There's another guy who lowballs me regularly with the story "it's my sons birthday tomorrow, I can come pick it up tonight for lowball $$", 4 times now since this summer (I doubt he has that many sons  )
I got him on the phone and he admitted it was just a lie to get a lower price. I won't pretend to be a saint but I hate blatant dishonest people. Googling his # lead me to his CL ads; the guy is a professional Craiglister,-buys low and sells high, has 20 guitars up for sale any given time. All his ads have the same backgrounds & photo angle. I get the urge to send him on fools errands, but whatever. At least he doesn't relist his 20 ads every day, only every three-four days.

Sold my early 90's MIM P-bass on Craigslist recently: guy walks in, picks up the bass and feels the weight and goes "oh, nice", looks down the neck to check if it's straight, plays about 10 notes on it then whips out the cash & high-tails it out of there. Whole thing lasted under three minutes and I was a-ok with it.

The next day the dude texts me and says "the string alignment is not lining up, yadda yadda yadda, I suspect this is a MIM neck on a Squier body, I think you falsely advertised this instrument." I was kind of taken a back because of how brief our encounter was, if he had that much knowledge why not give it more than a once over? I just replied saying I bought it as is and used the serial number to date it. He never said anything back to me, so I guess it's whatever :idk:

I bought my Cathedral reverb from a guy who wanted to meet at the train station by rthe financial district as he "worked in the city but commuted home". Whatever, no big deal, right? Totally convenient for me and I happened to have the day off so I was able to accommodate. I'm waiting and then this very straight laced businessman in his 50's in a very expensive suit comes up with the pedal and I'm like "wow, you were not what I was expecting!" and he's like "oh yeah, my son asked me to do this on my way home from work" and I'm like 'why did this guy not mention once his dad was the one making the exchange' but hey, to each their own... just very weird to think of this kid showing his dad the emails and having him flip the pedal for him...

alright, ad site in czech rep, similar to CL...

kay, so i was trying to buy an RV3 from a guy, listed for a pretty good price, however we talked about hsipping for a bit and we were like "let's split it"
so i specifically tell him yeah, so send the shit through COD for THIS price, i'll pay like two thirds of the shipping so we make it a round number (didn't want to deal with change)
a few days later, the pedal shows up, i go to pick it up at the post office and hmm... he charged me the whole shipping... so I sent it back without hesitation. It was small change, but these colours won't run...
I mailed him about it, calmly explaining we had a deal... the fucking shitstorm i got! I got called trash, poor, i was racially assaulted (he assumed i was a minority), i got threatened  motherfucker was lucky I sent it back and didn't leave it hanging at the office for two weeks

but there are not as many weirdos here, generally... people are surprisingly cool sometimes
I make pedal demos as East Stomp Boutique - http://www.youtube.com/c/eaststompboutique
