I go the fuck to sleep  If the wife is laying down ill toss on my headphones and listen to music. I would rather not play then play at whisper-hear the strings-cant hear shit levels.

Sometimes I don't get a chance to sit down with my guitar until after 10 or 11 pm at night :(

apart fromm booze...being the obvious answer...

i have a zoom g-3, and plug in headphones. The fuzz face clone in that can do some good doomy tones through headphones...and it works like a pedal board so very simple to use with hands or feet.

Got a whetstone phaser on the way and have been drooling over the new DBA ghost delay! Love the Rv3 and the boss delay is a dd2. Looking to add a 2x12 cab in the future, but live I just put the cab on top of my roadcase and really happy with the result. Cab is loaded with two vinatge 30's and two Fane Medusas!

I listened to the first one second of one of your songs and clicked download. Nice rig and board, and welcome.

i just have some shitty crate practice amp that i got for forty dollars. it sounds horrible, but it's fine for working on riffs at home. what i would really like to get sometime soon is an epiphone valve junior. they're really cheap and sound pretty good. and there's tons of mods you can do to them really easily. it's a great platform for that. i know mark from black arts tone works uses a modded one for his main test amp for his pedals. it's pretty quiet at 5 watts. doom relies on volume a lot for a great live impact and all and a good tone on some cooking tubes, but late night bedroom jams don't necessarily need that to have some palatable tone and good times rocking out alone.
I'd do something like this. I'd pick up a small 5-15 watt valve amp for cheap and modify it if it needs work. I've also heard good things about the Yamaha THR series. I'd like to try one of them out. They have tiny speakers but they're supposed to fill out the room nicely.

But at the same time, I personally wouldn't want to cheap out just because it's my jamming around at home amp. I still want to sound and feel inspired when I'm at home in bed laying around or watching Netflix. So I might save up and pick up a Fender Blues Junior or something of that ilk, something with a little more character and depth.

Massive post sickness catch up...but real quick styles:
Forrrest wrote:why don't you guys start building cabs?
is ordering speakers that much more expensive? (new neodym speakers are light, and cheaper to ship)
I'd like to see this board talking about loud speakers! show me some love for the Kappa & the Delta Pro-12A!

Doom started as stacking what ever cheap cabs you can find (this is why certain brands are popular with the doom crowd - they were cheap and undesired by others!)
that approach isn't going to go away
but being pragmatic about getting loud is also a serious option. and going DIY loud is feasible.
I intend to.

there's gear to be had. no one is giving it away but it's quite affordable. & isn't your min wage 15$?
i dunno where you live in australia, but anyone who doesn't live near metropolitan areas has to drive for the good deals. go for gear drives! co-ordinate shows/tours with picking up/buying gear!
There are definitely deals and steals out there. More prominent down south, though.
Minimum wage has fuck all to do with it when cost of living is as high as it is though. So yeah, we get paid more than you guys per hour or whatever, but shit is so fucking expensive. Not just gear, just living. Rent, petrol, fucking food. Its nuts.
So, personally, my situation financially just doesn't leave a lot of budget left over for gear. I'm not on good money competitively to other people but I have mates who play and earn more than I do (by a significant %) and they still have to think real hard about justifying gear related purchases when it comes to the big stuff.
I think my initial point was that we miss out on a lot of that dirt cheap shit that pops up in the US (like the $300 Sunn 4x12 in the doomwatch right now). That's what breaks my heart.
dub wrote:ahah, man the irony is that I look at secondhand aussie gear listings with extreme jealousy.

It's even worse over here.

Still there are local vintage gems like Holden/Wasp, Eminar, Jansen etc. Cabs can go pretty cheap, it's just about finding one near you.
I can only imagine, dude.
I've never seen those local makes pop up at sensible prices, though. I hear those Holdens are pretty gnarly volume wise.
It'd be cool just to hear one.

This.

And, holy shit, I just listened to that Nixa stuff. Well done.
Was the falcon used on that recording?
I've been thinking about getting a Falcon 50 down the track to sister with the DA...
Also, your mantra makes me want to hang onto mine...but yours is purdy, mine is simply....stock.

Got a combo I've been wanting to do this to, just can't find an amp to put in it.

Here's my humble rig w/smaller pedal board a couple months ago. I'm in the process of getting a new cab, since I busted a speaker or two from that one and it's really not worth it to fix or upgrade:

The weird EQ'ing on the SC is not how I usually run it, btw.
