soooooo.... i'm a git about basses and metals and woodwork and all. how bad is this?



i'm cleaning out my spare room, that's basically a storage room, to move a book case in there (to make room for a QUEEN SIZE BED IN MY BEDROOM BECAUSE FUCK YEAH HAVING A BED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE I CAN LAY STRAIGHT INSTEAD OF DIAGONAL AND FIT ON), and i found 2 basses i forgot about.

one is a six string Dean Edge (Q?) and three of the middle strings ripped around the 9th fret, and.... did that? rusted some frets?

is that something i can clean off? or something where i'd be a dishonest shitbag by cleaning it enough to hide the problem and fucking whoever i find on CL to buy it?

if it's a huge deal to fix, i'd probably just look for someone that wants it for parts or whatever and ship it them for the cost of shipping.

0000steel wool, it is oxidization not goo.

yeah, listen to Mudfuzz - I use #0000 steel wool and it totally will do the trick. don't need any chemicals. just scrub the shit out of it.

Naptha. I think that's what you English speakers call it. And cotton wool buds (???).

That'll dry out the fretboard a bit so rub in a little Tung oil or something. Even canola oil is ok. But use only a little! First time I oiled a fretboard it felt like a deep fryer for a week.

You can buff the frets with 0000 steel wool.

That'll make a huge difference and I'm incompetent at woodwork which means anyone can do it.

People always say that but I think of the cotton balls not the swabs (Q-tips) when people say cotton wool buds? Might just be me though.

tried cotton wool balls and they left strands of cotton between the fret and the fretboard. Bad.
