I have a sneaking suspension this may lead to a serious hobby later down the road. Years ago, I built an RC car and it was supa fun. It would be awesome if he takes it to that level.

RC Helicopters below $100
My boyfriend is fascinated with helicopters. I want to get him an RC heli for X-Mas. There seems to be dozens of these available to choose from. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated

I know you said under $100, but a friend just got a Blade 350 QX.
Which is, quite unfortunately, out of your price range, because apparently it's "rad", but I though I'd at least bump this topic for you.

I haven't been into RC in decades, but I have been doing some helicopter research lately. I want to get one to screw with my cats.
In the $100 range, you are looking squarely at a toy. The brand I have been looking at is WLToys, particularly the V911 or V912. They are in the $40-$60 range, including a controller. What looks good about them is that there are replacement parts available, including complete helicopters.
Add in some extra batteries, and you are getting close to $100. Whatever is left can be set aside for replacement parts for when it breaks.
Good luck!

Avoid the airhogs stuff...unless you want a toy for inside that only runs about 5 minutes at a time. Which, in that case, it is actually pretty fun...but invest in a good one.

Cool! Yeah, toy level is what I'm looking at for now. It will stay inside the house anyways. Not going to be able to afford to get into the heli's that you build until later down the road.

flying a helicopter inside my house would be terrifying. not just to my cat. i would run into and damage something instantly.
it's not a helicopter but if you haven't heard about sphero check that out, they're pretty amusing!

Yea, I know! A tiny heli no larger than the size of my fist is sheer terror in a house. WTF are you on about!
