urrrrrrm.... perhaps. i never really dug on his stuff, but that's more on me. i was really getting out of filters and that's what he makes, so.... yeah.
when we chatted a bit when i got in on the Proton prototype run he seemed like a decent enough dooder?
meh. GOT THE LAST THING I NEED FOR THAT ROW COMING IN TOP MOUNNNNNTED.
...... now just need to talk Dan Dan into rehousing the BEF2 when they're released, then it's ON TO THE STRYMONS. MAYBE? HOPE SO.

YESH. ONE GIANT SEX BOT WITH ALL THREE STRYMIES INSIDE HER.
... same size, just etched. probably silly though since they'd have to have all the same labeling to be useful and that wouldna leave much room for SHTUFF.

Eh, I'm not so sure. I think the issue is he runs his business in a really professional manner compared to a lot of the other small builders and has to to make it work and therefore he comes off differently than some of the other cool and not so cool cats that we buy from and interact with regulary on the forums. He's got a real assembly line thing going with multiple employees, so I can imagine it'd defintely not be easy for him to change up the jacks like that, he'd probably have to hand assemble it himself and that's probably not what he'd like to spend his time doing at this point.Deltaphoenix wrote:That looks NICE

A: I don't think he's douchey to begin with.
B: Not everybody is quite as open/jovial with the fans/users as everybody else, this can be do to business style, personality or a variety of things. Just because he may present a slightly different face to the public doesn't make him a douche, but for certain types of customers they'll wonder why the person isn't as "cool" as some of the other guys.
A guy can be colder to the public and not come off as super cool, but it doesn't mean he's a douche, just maybe not the guy you want to hang out with. (And I'm not even saying this is what Spencer is/does.)

Re: The Kitten Room and TB Mega Thread ^.^
Wrong binary.
Just because a small builder does act jovial and open with their fans and users doesn't mean they're not professional, and the implication that someone is perceived as "more professional" because they're not as willing to interact with people is fucking stupid.
not that you necessarily subscribe to that idea yourself, of course.

Re: The Kitten Room and TB Mega Thread ^.^
yeah. i get what SmallEq is saying though. i don't think they're an either/or binary state, Being Interesting And Fun Guy GrrL and Being Professional, but it does seem like Spencer made a decision early on to not be as present as some builders, and i don't know if that's for a dislike of social media/forums, or not being comfy with it, or feeling like it takes time away from building/other stuff or what..... but i don't dislike him for it. he's never been a doucher in the few emails we've had.
i meant it more as a testament to Danny's skeelz than a teardown of Spence And Company.

Taylor from IE is present on Forums somewhat yet is kind of reserved, etc. Taylor has multiple employees, even some in different locations yet he will do custom stuff if it is feasible. Taylor is very straightforward about if a customization can be done or if he WANTS to do it.SmallEQ wrote:Eh, I'm not so sure. Spencer just said it can't be done. If he was being straightforward Spencer would have said hey it can be done but I don't have the time. If Spence was to be cool he could have said, hey I don't have the time but if you get someone else to do it have them watch out for X, because that is the tricky part.
So, Spence didn't tell the truth…he is a douche in that regard, IMO.
Not because he didn't bend to Behndy's will (lol), he just said it couldn't be done instead of being real about it.
Hearing the word No is part of life, it is an acceptable answer to questions. Saying No that can't be done instead of saying all of the legit possibilities that you listed is kind of douchey.
I am not knocking his pedals, company, pedals he builds for other companies, etc. Just saying that his interpersonal skills in this situation were lacking.

To add, Taylor has been very quick with replying to me and yes, has been very straightforward and helpful. When I had my GR and emailed Spencer he took kind of a while getting back to me and was very blunt with his answer, almost as if I had inconvenienced him asking about a discontinued pedal.Deltaphoenix wrote:Taylor from IE is present on Forums somewhat yet is kind of reserved, etc. Taylor has multiple employees, even some in different locations yet he will do custom stuff if it is feasible. Point taken, but also consider that maybe based on what he thought he knew he didn't think it could be done. Maybe there are space tolerances he tries to adhere to for quality reasons that lead him to say it couldn't be done? Perhaps in a face to face or phone conversation it would have come across differently? I've had next to no direct interactions with him and only used a couple of his products, so I'm just spitballing.Deltaphoenix wrote: Taylor from IE is present on Forums somewhat yet is kind of reserved, etc. Taylor has multiple employees, even some in different locations yet he will do custom stuff if it is feasible. In general I'm just hesitant to attribute to Malice (aka doucheyness) to what could be just be ignorance (aka lack of time/opprotunity to consider all of the options) on his or anybody's part.
