Re: Overrated movies?
I can't remember any that weren't overrated or boring or blah or yawn or suck or too dumb...
What IS a good movie that is good on its own merits...
I can't watch blockbusters so all those are out...

Some of these are good: http://www.imdb.com/list/vInMV_LGIOc/
No Country for Old Men, The Prestige, Moon, Sin City, There Will Be Blood, are all great movies, for example.

Uh, off the top from 2003-2013:sonidero wrote:I can't remember any that weren't overrated or boring or blah or yawn or suck or too dumb...

I really liked both of Martin McDonagh's films, In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths
Cuaron's Children of Men and Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth
Scorsese's work from that decade has been pretty solid, although I didn't care for The Aviator (and you might qualify those as blockbusters anyway)
Herzog did a bunch of tres cool documentaries, especially Grizzly Man, and Rescue Dawn, which was really good.
Polanski did The Ghost Writer, which I really liked.
The Squid and the Whale
The Coen's stuff from that era has all been pretty fantastic, aside from A Serious Man. Same With Paul Thomas Anderson.

Troll Hunter was AWESOME! Biggest surprise of... ever. I love that film. Hearing Kvelertak at the end was just the icing on the cake. I've not seen the other two. I'll check 'em out.

I looked up Rubber and was like "Did I just get trolled or was he being serious?" Maybe it's awesome...
