Weight is probably to calculate shipping cost. For basses and amps, I usually weight it using the bathroom scale. It won't be perfect, but it will be within a half pound or so. Weight yourself first, then weight yourself holding it.

I've never sold a guitar online, but I'd guess a good first step would be to get a box for the guitar and all the necessary packing materials. Then you can give accurate weight and dimensions of the packed guitar for shipping quotes. Sounds like a hassle, but at least you don't have to deal with typical craigslist morons.
